Did you know that with our trained technicians Kal Tire can handle any brake, shock or oil service your vehicle needs and keep your warranty intact?

Alignments

If your vehicle pulls to one side, you may need an alignment.

By keeping your vehicle in proper alignment, you can avoid unstable handling and uneven treadwear. An alignment will help you get a longer life from your tires.

Kal Tire offers computerized alignments that make sure your wheels are parallel, your steering wheel is centered and your vehicle is set straight.

Batteries

DieHard® Batteries - The world's best-selling automotive battery available at Kal Tire. Sold exclusively at Kal Tire in Western Canada.

DieHard® Battery was first introduced in 1967 and today DieHard® remains the best selling automotive battery of all time with more than 85 million units sold.

The main reason DieHard® Battery is the number one automotive battery is the quality that is built into every battery. Virtually all components are manufactured at one plant to ensure exceptional quality control. All batteries undergo 250 quality control checks before leaving the plant. All specifications, on average, meet or exceed original equipment requirements.

The DieHard® Battery is a maintenance free battery that never requires water and because it requires no maintenance, it provides worry free service.

For your convenience please come into Kal Tire for a free battery check. Kal Tire and DieHard®- True Service.

Winter Storage

Ensure the battery is fully charged before storing. If it is an automotive or marine starting battery, then the battery will be fine until spring (you may have to give the battery a slight charge before using). If the battery is a deep cycle or commercial battery, then you should charge once before storage and again in February and then again before using in the spring.

The battery should be stored in a cool, dry place. Outside in a garage is fine in terms of temperature, as it must be extremely cold before a fully charged battery will freeze. Heat actually does more damage to a battery than cold, so cooler is better.

Storing a battery on cement is fine. It may discharge marginally faster than on wood, but the difference is generally insignificant. The most important thing is to ensure there is nothing underneath the battery (such as a small stone or nail) that would damage the battery case while the battery sat on top of it all winter.

Brakes

Protect yourself and your vehicle by taking good care of your brakes.

It's time to check and/or service your brakes when:

The red "brake" lamp on the dash lights up.
Your "ABS" or "Anti-lock" dash indicator is lit while you are driving.
You can hear a grinding sound or squealing coming from the wheel area.
The brake system feels different, such as a softer brake pedal or pulling to one side when stopping.
A qualified Kal Tire technician can thoroughly inspect and service these parts of your brake system:

1) Master cylinder

The heart of your brake system, the master cylinder pumps brake fluid to the wheel cylinder or calipers when you push down on the brake pedal. The fluid reservoir level of the brake system can and should be visually inspected from time to time. It is recommended that brake fluid should be replaced about every 40,000 km.

2) Calipers and wheel cylinders

The function of the calipers (for disc brakes) and wheel cylinders (for drum brakes) is to convert the energy of the pressurized brake fluid into pressure to operate the brakes. A periodic inspection for leaks around the rubber seals should be carried out to maintain good working order.

3) ABS sensors and controller

Your ABS system is electronically controlled. This system detects problems of which, some can be self-corrected, while others will shut down the ABS system, which causes the ABS light on the dash to be illuminated. Some problems are recorded in the vehicles computer for the technician's reference when servicing the braking system.

4) Brake pads and shoes

An inspection will determine if you need to replace the linings of your brake pads and shoes. This procedure is referred to as a "brake job" and should be carried out frequently for maximum performance.

5) Parking brake

If you don't use your parking brake regularly, ask your technician to lubricate the cables and check the adjustment, as the potential problem here is corrosion.

Oil Service

Oil Service

At Kal Tire it is not an oil change but an OIL SERVICE.

An oil service is not just replacing old oil and installing a new oil filter to keep your engine in top shape. It is also the opportunity to conduct a vehicle check up and perform any manufacturers recommended maintenance. Included in an oil service is the Kal Tire  “True Service Inspection’. This Inspection gives you a report card on the condition of your vehicle under the hood as well as around the key items like steering and suspension. We will also remove each wheel and check the key components of your brake system, making your maintenance visit more complete.

Still under manufacturers warranty?

Kal Tire stores are equipped with the right technology and information to look after you vehicle as recommended by the manufacturer. A Kal Tire oil service is warranty approved.

Other maintenance services

Every vehicle manufacturer provides a “Maintenance Schedule Interval” (MSI) designed to keep you car on the road longer and safer. Kal Tire follows the MSI recommended for your vehicle.

Convenience

Already coming in for your spring or winter tire change over? Have your Oil Service performed at the same time saving you time from other service appointments.

Shocks & Struts

Kal Tire uses quality Monroe shocks and struts.

Our preventive check-ups report the condition of your shocks and struts.

Using a system of green, yellow and red indicators. A check mark in the green shows your shocks or struts are good, yellow indicates replacement needed soon, and red indicates to you your shocks and struts should be replaced.

"SHOCKING" QUICK FACTS:

• Shocks and struts affect the safe operation of your vehicle.
• New shocks and struts prevent premature wear on your suspension components.
• Shocks and struts help keep your vehicle's tire in firm contact with the road. Worn shocks and struts can result in excessive bounce (wheel hop), lessening the driver's control and braking ability.
• A vehicle with just one degraded shock could increase stopping distance up to 3 metres.*
• Shock absorbers can't be repaired. They are sealed units which must be replaced when they fail.

Now that you've got the facts, wouldn't you agree that shocks and struts provide more than just a comfortable ride?

*A tests performed on dry, bumpy surface, comparing vehicles equipped with Monroe Sensa-Trac shock absorbers three new and one 50 percent degraded original equipment shock. Results may vary by vehicle, driver ability, and driving conditions.

Wiper Blades

The best tires in the world will help you in poor weather conditions, but the success is limited if you can't see where you are going. Kal Tire carries a large selection of quality Trico wiper blades.

How often should I change my wipers?

For maximum driving safety, we recommend you change your wiper blades every six months. As an easy reminder, change your wipers when you change your clock at daylight savings time.

How do I know if my wipers need to be replaced?

If your wipers clean your windshield unevenly, that's a sign your wipers have deteriorated. If the wiper doesn't make proper contact with the windshield surface, you'll get streaky or unwiped areas that can reduce your driving vision.

Here are a few signs your wipers need to be replaced:

• Streaking is caused by dry rubber that has hardened and cracked. It can also be caused by tree sap, road tar or other substances on the blade rubber.
• Chattering is caused by the curve in the rubber some wiper blades develop if not used for along time. When this happens, the blade makes a chattering sound as it skips over the windshield.
• Worn blades: the rubber wiping edge of the blade will wear down with use.
• Split rubber occurs on blades that are old or have been damaged by the sun.

If any of these describe your wipers, replace them today.

Do I need to replace both wipers?

You should replace both wipers at the same time to help ensure clear driving vision from the entire windshield. Don't forget to replace the rear wiper blade if you have one, at the same time.

Is it important to clean my windshield before installing new wipers?

Yes. Car wash wax, tree sap and other contaminants create a thin film on your windshield. Use a non-abrasive cleaner and warm water to clean the windshield.

Can I install the new wiper blades myself?

You can but...why bother...when you purchase wiper blades at a Kal tire store, we'll install them free of charge!!

Kal Tire Stores carry a complete line of economy and premium wiper blades to fit all makes and models.
