President's Message

Feb 7, 2014

Dear Valued Customers,

Statistics from the latest CanaData Forecaster show that total Canadian employment is now well ahead of its pre-recession peak in 2008. The construction industry continues to be among the best sectors for job growth. Data shows the country’s recent total employment was only slightly higher overall, but construction jobs were up 9 percent year-over-year. Helping lead the way is an increase in dollar volume for commercial and residential sectors. The U.S. new-housing market continues to be solid, which has also created demand for Canadian wood products.

As the Canadian economy continues to improve, many innovative companies are growing and providing much-needed services to their customers. For example, inside this issue you can read about Swamp Mats, an Alberta company that’s helping its customers work in otherwise undesirable ground conditions. I believe you’ll find its unique use of Komatsu equipment and attachments particularly interesting.

Another growing company that will go to great lengths to please its customers is Digalot Hoe Service. Owners Marcel Sheff and Stacy Barr carry a “go anywhere, do almost anything” attitude that helped this Ontario company get off to a strong, fast start. You’ll also find enjoyable articles about Excavation Jean-Claude Alary Inc. and Excavations V. St-Germain Inc., both of which are located in Quebec.

As always, everyone at SMS Equipment is committed to helping you with solutions for all your equipment needs. Please call us or stop by any of our branch locations to find out more about our wide range of products and services.

Sincerely,
Bruce Knight
President and CEO
