Porcupine CIM Golf Tournament Raises $11,000 for Mining Scholarships (VIDEO)

Charity Golf Tournament funds 3 Scholarships to Haileybury School of Mines

On August 15, 2015 the Porcupine Chapter of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) held its annual charity golf tournament at the Hollinger Golf Club in Timmins across the back road from the legendary Hollinger gold mine.

 Kyle Buckoll, President of the Porcupine Chapter, reported that the tournament raised $11,000 towards three scholarships for students to attend the Haileybury School of Mines.

Buckoll reported that 140 people signed up for the charity golf tournament.

The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) has since 1898 been the leading not for profit technical society of professionals in the Canadian Minerals, Metals, Materials and Energy Industries. There are 14,600 members across Canada.

The Porcupine CIM Chapter sponsors three charity events each year and raises funds for 3 college level scholarships to the Haileybury School of Mines in Haileybury, Ontario part of Northern College.

 According to Buckoll the Porcupine Chapter will add two more scholarships to encourage high school students interested in pursuing a post-secondary education in mining.

In addition to the charity golf tournament, the Porcupine Chapter, also hosts a hockey tournament and a steak and seafood dinner fundraisers.

CIM has three main objectives: 1) to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and technology; 2) to foster networking, professional development and fraternity; 3) to recognize excellence and outstanding achievements in the minerals industry.
