About the Company

1934

Imagine finding yourself in 1934 – in the midst of an economic crisis – in the small town of Lac Drolet, Eastern Townships. Times are rough. The climate is arid. People are busy working the land but have very little means. In the face of this adversity, Louis-Philippe Royer must fight for survival and provide his family with housing and food - he refuses to capitulate.

Having learned the art and craft of shoemaking, he uses his personal skills – inventiveness, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit – to open a small workshop in his home, where he manufactures construction boots for those working hard in the fields.

In order to survive together, he encourages his brothers and sisters to join him. Soon, the space allotted in his house is overcrowded and Louis-Philippe constructs a mold he will use to build the walls of his factory brick by brick… the same factory that still stands today – bearing the indelible signature of his founder in the veins of it’s walls.

1942 – A TANNERY

Unable to afford the expensive equipment sold in New England, Louis-Philippe finds inspiration in industrial catalogues to invent and build his own production equipment. He is faced with a new challenge when it becomes increasingly difficult to source high quality leather. He consequently decides to open his own tannery. A man of character, Louis-Philippe has an independent spirit.

Faced with every challenge life sends his way, he believes in people’s ability to overcome obstacles if they roll up their sleeves and use their creativity. If others can do it, so can we! His personal ideals are the foundation of what we have become today: inventiveness, ingenuity, tenacity, discipline, rigor, attention to detail and respect for hard work.

1965 – HENRI ROYER

In 1965, Henri Royer, son of Louis-Philippe Royer, takes over the family business. He improves operations and products in order to render them more competitive. Having developed leather suitable for the vulcanization process, he extends this process to most of the production. The company also begins its consultation with customers and partners to offer products meeting the specific needs of different trades.

1986 – YVES ROYER

In continuity with the innovative and dynamic tradition of the Royer family, Yves Royer, grandson of Louis-Philippe Royer and son of Henry, takes over the family business in 1986. By focusing on the quality of its human resources and the expertise of all members of his team, he continues to expand the business by preparing it to better cope with the globalization of markets.

He integrates the concept of value-added production, oversees the implementation of the ISO 9001 quality system, and invests in the new XPAN ® rubber sole dual density molding technology, exclusive to Royer brand in North America.

2007 – THE MOTHER OF ALL BOOTS

For over 80 years, Royer has been recognized worldwide and positioned itself as a security specialist by focusing on product quality, on its consulting services and on the quality of its relationships with its customers. Royer is also a certified C-TPAT (Custom Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) and different styles are CSA, ASTM, CE and IEC approved.

2013 – GSP

ROYER announces its association with Georges St-Pierre (GSP), mixed martial arts world champion, who will act as the new ROYER spokesperson. The company is very proud to associate itself with a Canadian athlete recognized for his extraordinary determination.

ROYER is a survivor of the Canadian footwear industry. Founded in 1934 by Louis-Philippe Royer, the factory located in the small town of Lac-Drolet, Eastern Townships, still manufactures work boots and shoes for those who work in the most extreme conditions.

The partnership with GSP is instinctive for ROYER, who shares his values: discipline, tenacity, respect for work well done, integrity and authenticity.
