Sokkia Corporation is the United States subsidiary of Sokkia Co., Ltd., Tokyo, a world-leading manufacturer of precision measuring systems. History
 
1920 – Sokkisha Co., Ltd. begins manufacturing transits in a small shop in Tokyo.
 
1940s – Lietz Company ceases manufacturing and begins to market Sokkisha instruments.
 
1970s – Lietz Company becomes an exclusive distributor of Sokkisha products in the U.S.
 
1980 – Sokkisha acquires Lietz and establishes divisions in Australia and Europe. Lietz distribution center moves to Overland Park, KS.
 
1990 – Sokkisha celebrates 70th anniversary and changes its name to SOKKIA.
 
1999 – SOKKIA Co., Ltd. (Tokyo) enters into a joint venture with NovAtel, Inc. (Calgary) to create POINT, Inc. for the purpose of developing and marketing advanced GPS products.
 
2000 – SOKKIA Corporation and POINT, Inc. move the North American headquarters to Olathe, Kan.
 
2009 – Topcon Corporation and Sokkia Co., Ltd. combine to create the world’s leading supplier of surveying instruments
