Committed to Supporting
ABORIGINAL RELATIONS

For many years, ESS North America has been deeply committed to supporting Aboriginal economic and business development initiatives across Canada.

We have a corporate responsibility to demonstrate leadership by committing to achieving positive, sustainable, and capacity building outcomes for Aboriginal people.

We Leave the Land
BETTER THAN HOW WE FOUND IT

No matter the physical location of our businesses, it is our responsibility to leave the land better than how we found it. To achieve this, we listen to, learn from, and partner with residents in those communities; in many instances, Aboriginal communities are the groups impacted. We hire locally and we buy locally, two factors critical to managing costs and achieving success.

ESS has more than 35 active joint ventures with Aboriginal business partners in Canada, for the most part involving remote businesses in the mining, oil and gas and infrastructure sectors.

Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business

As a patron member of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB), Compass Group Canada continues to demonstrate leadership in supporting Aboriginal economic and business development initiatives throughout Canada.

We are also a founding sponsor of CCAB’s Aboriginal Hall of Fame and founding sponsor of the Aboriginal Business Mentorship Program.

We believe in the importance of not only being good business partners, but also of being active members of the communities in which we operate; our long standing relationship with the CCAB is one of our strongest partnerships.

Progressive Aboriginal Relations

Since 2013, ESS Support Services Worldwide has been awarded Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) Program – Gold PAR Level Achievement*, in recognition of our strategic engagement with Aboriginal businesses and communities.

*PAR is a certification program that confirms corporate performance in Aboriginal relations at the Bronze, Silver or Gold level. Certified companies promote their level with a PAR logo signaling to communities that they are good business partners; great places to work, and are committed to prosperity in Aboriginal communities.

The PAR logo provides a high level of assurance to communities because the designation is supported by an independent, third party verification of company reports. The final company level is determined by a jury comprised of Aboriginal business people. Since the program’s introduction in 2001, PAR remains the premier corporate social responsibility program with an emphasis on Aboriginal relations.
