Agricultural Techniques Program

Agriculture is a vital sector for the Canadian economy. The person who chooses to pursue a career in agriculture makes a choice that will have an impact on regional and global food. The Agricultural Techniques program offers basic training in agriculture and agricultural business management, following new industry trends and different methods of farm management. Two profiles are available to students: the animal profile and the plant profile. The graduate of this program acquires the skills to adapt to the many technological, social and economic changes in agriculture and the para-agricultural sector today.
 
Following the program
  • a career as a facilitator and extension worker, technical advisor in field crops, animal feed, equipment and machinery and financing, crop pest scout, farm manager and owner, inseminator, dairy controller or classifier, representative for crop insurance, representative of producer associations, technician in agri-environmental clubs.
 
Vocational training outcomes
 
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:
 
1. Apply appropriate crop production techniques according to climatic and soil conditions, taking into account soil fertility, pests, cultivation practices and crop storage needs.
 
2. Apply the principles of nutrition, animal improvement, reproduction techniques, health, housing, animal welfare and comfort in various efficient production systems in order to make the appropriate recommendations .
 
3. Assess the impact of agricultural practices on the environment as well as their long-term effects on the development of sustainable agriculture.
 
4. Apply the standards and procedures ensuring the safe use and maintenance of machinery and main agricultural equipment.
 
5. Evaluate the profitability and effectiveness of the company's human resources, finance, operations and marketing functions by applying management principles to ensure the long-term viability of the company.
 
6. Perform your work in accordance with applicable laws, policies, codes, regulations and safety procedures
 
7. Select the appropriate innovative technology and processes to integrate into agricultural businesses to improve the efficiency of their operations.

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:
