Largest Mining TRADEX in Northern Canada BIGGER YET!

Mar 13, 2013

Glenn Dredhart, president of Canadian Trade-Ex is promising the “Big Event” Northern Mining and Exploration Expo May 29th, 30th this year will be the biggest yet! “It is the largest mining expo conference anywhere in northern Canada and seems to have taken on a life of its own! The city has enlarged our McIntyre site paved parking lots this year and we are building for the second time a temporary outdoor covered pavilion to house an additional 100 exhibitors.”  Tom Laughren, mayor of Timmins, “Canada’s Gold Capital” and host city for the Expo feels Timmins is getting to be known around the world for our gold and the economic opportunities suppling our mining industries.

“The mayor adds: “The Big Event” has put Timmins on the world map as a major business destination that fills every hotel and lodging in Timmins. Close to 8,000 delegates attend each year encompassing education, municipal, manufacturing, investors, students, heavy equipment trainers and job providers. Also general contractors and suppliers, First Nation negotiators and aboriginal businesses.

Mr. Dredhart, is pleased to confirm that Phil Fontaine, former national chief, Assembly of First Nations will be the keynote luncheon speaker for our new Aboriginal Procurement and Partnerships Conference sponsored by the Nishnawbe-Aski Development Fund also hosting their own Aboriginal Pavilion.

A panel of speakers representing Aboriginal negotiators/leaders and Mining Corporations will discuss successful negotiations/agreements, developing Aboriginal community relations and forming partnerships with Aboriginal entrepreneurs and First Nations. A morning of this conference will see procurement officers from area mines discuss current and future supply needs and their criteria for choosing suppliers.

You can call Brian Davey 1-800-465-6821 or email: BDaveynadf.org for tickets and booth space which are expected to sell out quickly.

Mr. Dredhart adds: “We are proud of our ongoing Career and Education Pavilions. Over 40 companies accept job resumes including mining companies, job placement and heavy equipment training companies at their kiosks on site. To create awareness with our younger generation and their families of the excellent variety of good paying careers in modern mining we are expanding our participation in Mining Week Education Day to include  student bus tours with special interactive programs designed by Laurentian University & Mining Matters from Ottawa and the local Porcupine Prospectors and Developers. We are also looking to develop an Education Resource centre on our new Mining Life portal for class room followup.  To this end we are looking for videos illustrating the vast array of career choices now available in the mining industries. Teachers looking to book student tours of the Big Event and register for the student interactive activities should call: Jay Cornelsen 705-264-2251 or email: jaycor@ontera.net

Excitement is also starting to build for our Boart Longyear Jackleg drilling competitions which is a real crowd pleaser and media favorite according to Jay Cornelsen, Tradex national publicity director and special events co-ordinator. “We have a lot of fun at this competition starting with “The Mayors Challenge”, a friendly but hotly contested event between the mayors of northern mining communities. Tom Laughren, mayor of Timmins has thrown his hat in the ring once again. The “Big Event” features the only Ladies Invitational Jackleg Competition in the world,  followed by professional drillers from all over northern Ontario and Quebec vying for the coveted Northern Ontario “King Jackleg Crown.

Expo management is also proud to announce continuation of our popular Prospector’s course hosted by the Porcupine Prospectors Developers group which brings in amateur prospectors and rock-hounds from across the world wanting to find a “bit of glitter” that could lead to another mother lode.
