Joseph Conway, Chairman, B.Sc., MBA
Mr. Conway has 30 years of executive leadership and financial industry experience. Mr. Conway previously served as President and CEO of Primero Mining prior to its acquisition by First Majestic Silver Corp. in 2018. Prior to that, Mr. Conway was President and CEO of IAMGOLD from 2003 to 2010. During this period, Mr. Conway led IAMGOLD through its transformation from a junior joint venture company to a $6 billion leading mid-tier gold producer. During his executive leadership, Mr. Conway has been involved in strategic development including mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings and accessing the capital markets for over US$1.2 billion in debt and equity.
 
Sam Coetzer, President & CEO
Mr. Coetzer has over 30 years of international mining experience and provides Harte Gold with strong leadership skills and an extensive knowledge of underground mining operations. Most recently, Sam was President and Chief Executive Officer of Golden Star Resources Ltd. During Mr. Coetzer’s tenure as CEO, he successfully:
  • Transitioned the company from open pit operations to an underground-only producer
  • Attracted institutional capital including a large strategic investment
  • Grew the capital markets profile and increased overall share trading volume
Prior to Golden Star, Sam held numerous senior management positions for global mining companies, including Senior Vice President, South American Operations for Kinross Gold, COO of Xstrata Nickel, COO of Xstrata Coal South Africa and Managing Director for Placer Dome Inc. in Africa. Mr. Coetzer holds a degree in mining engineering from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
 
Stephen G. Roman, BA
Mr. Roman is an entrepreneur/financier who has been involved in the resource industry over the past 40 years and has successfully identified, financed, developed, and brought into commercial production many mining and oil and gas projects. His past experience includes acting as a director and senior officer of Denison Mines Limited, Lawson Mardon Group, and Zemex Corporation. He also worked to modernize Canada’s Armed Forces in 1984/85 as Policy Adviser to the Minister of National Defense. In addition, Mr. Roman spearheaded the privatization of two major petrochemical companies in Central Europe and was appointed Chairman of Novácke Chemické Závody, a.s., in 2002, Slovakia’s largest petrochemical company with 2,800 employees.
 
In recent years, Mr. Roman’s focus has been to finance and develop emerging junior, publicly-listed companies, which included: Gold Eagle Mines Ltd., Gabriel Resources Ltd., Verena Minerals Corporation (now Belo Sun Mining Corp.), Exall Energy Corporation, Polar Star Mining Corporation, Silvermet Inc., and Global Atomic Fuels Corporation (a private Ontario corporation). Mr. Roman was the founder, Co-Chairman and Director of Gold Eagle Mines Ltd., which was acquired by Goldcorp Inc. for $1.5 Billion. Mr. Roman was recently the President & CEO of Harte Gold and is currently the President & CEO of Global Atomic Corporation.
 
Since 1991, when Mr. Roman started his own Mining and Resource house, he has successfully completed approximately $2.5 billion in transactions in the mining, oil & gas and petrochemical sectors. Mr. Roman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Guelph, Ontario in the field of Geology and Geography. He is also a member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and a former director of the Advisory Board of the College of Management and Economics at the University of Guelph. Mr. Roman was awarded the honour of “Prospector of the Year” for 2016 and has received the “Bill Dennis Award” from the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) in March, 2016.
 
Michael W. Scherb, BBA, MFin
Mr. Scherb is the Founder and CEO of Appian Capital Advisory LLP, the investment advisor to the Appian Natural Resources Fund (“Appian”) which holds a 19.99% share ownership in Harte Gold.  Mr. Scherb started his career structuring foreign investment into Beijing and China in 2001 and took part in the country’s rapid rise.  He joined JPMorgan’s metals and mining team in London post this, where we worked on $185 billion worth of metals and mining transactions with a focus on strategic advisory to mining companies as it related to growth, corporate advisory and shareholder returns.  Mr. Scherb holds a BBA and a Masters in Finance.
 
Richard Sutcliffe, Ph.D., P.Geo.
Richard Sutcliffe is a Professional Geoscientist with PhD in geology and has over 30 years’ experience in the mining sector as a director and executive managing mineral exploration and development programs. He has had key roles in developing several gold, platinum group metals, and copper-nickel mining projects. Dr. Sutcliffe was formerly President and CEO of TSX listed Ursa Major Minerals Inc. and TSXV listed Patricia Mining Corp. and is currently President of Pavey Ark Minerals Inc., a private exploration company..
 
Geoffrey Cohen, MBA
Mr. Cohen is the Senior Advisor to Appian in North America. Prior to joining Appian, Mr. Cohen was Managing Director and Head of North American Mining Investment Banking at JPMorgan.  During this period, he originated and successfully executed M&A, debt and equity transactions valued at over US$40 billion.  Prior to joining JPMorgan in 2010, Geoff worked as a senior professional in the M&A groups of both global and domestic Canadian investment banks, where he focused on the natural resources sector.  Mr. Cohen holds a B.Sc. in Engineering from Queen’s University and an M.B.A from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.
 
James Gallagher, B.Eng.
Mr. Gallagher is a seasoned mining executive and Professional Engineer with a 35-year track record of optimizing operational performance, leading successful projects and consulting with global scope. Mr. Gallagher is currently the President and CEO of North American Palladium Ltd. (“NAP”). Since joining NAP, Mr. Gallagher rebuilt the senior management team, introduced advanced technologies and mining methods at the Lac des Illes Mine and achieved an operational and financial turnaround within two years that made the Lac des Illes Mine one of the largest underground mines in Canada, culminating in the recently announced sale of NAP for $1 billion to Impala Platinum. Prior to NAP, Mr. Gallagher spent 24 years with Falconbridge Inc., in a variety of operational and project management roles and eight years as Global Director of Mining for Hatch, leading one of the largest mining EPCM teams in North America. Mr. Gallagher currently serves on the Board of the Ontario Mining Association.
