Canadian Alberni Engineering began as a ship building company and has produced over 150 vessels up to 95', most of which are still active. Today CAE has become a leading mechanical and marine contractor offering a full service ship yard, machine shop, fabrication shop, and mechanical, field and engineering services. CAE has a deep history in the boat building industry and has expanded into serving BC forestry, mining, and power generation industries.
 
Canadian Alberni Engineering has been operating in Port Alberni, on Vancouver Islands West Coast, since 1914. This shipyard has produced a large number of quality vessels such as tug boats, side-windersfor the logging industry, seine and trawling fishing vessels, barges, skiffs, live fish transport barges, water taxis, work boats and supply boats. Most vessels produced have been in the 15' to 95' range, however larger vessels can certainly be built. The company also produces its own line of marine equipment such as nozzles, anchors, towing pins, winches, trawl winches and we welcome orders for custom made equipment. The company is capable of producing in both steel and aluminum with work definitely being done to ISO-9002 standards.
 
The company has a large fabrication area with over 20,000 square feet under cover with 7 overhead cranes. Vessels up to 30m in length can be built inside. Two marine lifts (150 ton each) and a 250 ton marine railway are on site. For larger vessels up to 100,000 dwt and 356 meters in length, work would be done at the graving dock in Esquimalt B.C.
 
The fabrication & welding shop is well equipped with a brake, sheer, set of rolls, computerized burning table, along with many other specialized pieces of equipment. The large machine shop has among it's equipment, 7 lathes for work to 42" diameter and 30' long. A propeller repair shop, for service on props up to 84" in diameter, is on site. The mechanic shop completely rebuilds and/or performs maintenance on all diesel engines. Our electrical repair department is equipped to do extensive service work.
 
Canadian Alberni Engineering is also engaged in the manufacture and supply of equipment for the logging, sawmill, and pulp & paper industry.
