Eric Asubonteng
 
President
 
Mr. Asubonteng is the Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi. He has worked with AngloGold Ashanti since 2013 and rose through the ranks by dint of hard work and strong commitment to duty.
 
Until this appointment, Mr. Asubonteng was Head of Operations and Corporate Affairs of the Company’s Obuasi Mine and had full responsibility for managing the reputation of the company as head of Corporate Affairs.
 
Mr. Asubonteng is a highly accomplished Finance Executive with 13 years’ experience in executive roles, both local and international, in both surface mining and underground operations. Mr. Asubonteng is a chartered accountant.
 
Alfred Baku
 
1st Vice President
 
Mr. Alfred Baku is the Executive Vice President and Head of West Africa at Gold Fields Group. Mr. Baku has over two decades of mining experience, most of which has been with Gold Fields in senior management positions.
 
He joined the company’s Damang Mine as Production Engineer in 1997, and by 2002 had risen to become a member of the senior management team of the Mine. His appointment as General Manager of the Damang Mine in 2008 made Alfred the first Ghanaian to hold such a position within the company.
 
Two years later he was made General Manger of the Tarkwa Mine, and subsequently Vice President of Operations with responsibility for both mines. Alfred was, in 2013, promoted to the position of Senior Vice President for West Africa, and became a member of Gold Fields Group’s Executive Committee. In February 2014, Alfred was elevated to Executive Vice President and Head of the company’s West Africa region.
 
Terence Watungwa
 
2nd Vice President
 
Terence Watungwa is the Vice President and General Manager of Chirano Gold Mines Limited, a Kinross company.
He is a Mining professional with over 20 years-experience in operations management, project management, technical services management, and strategic planning and execution.
 
Prior to joining Chirano, he was Vice President and General Manager, Dvoinoye Mine, a high value, high grade Kinross operation in Russia.
 
Terence has held various other positions of increasing responsibility in mining operations in USA and Zimbabwe.
He graduated with BSc (Eng) Hons in Mining engineering from University of Zimbabwe in 1995.
 
Terence also holds a MBA in Operations Management from Colorado Technical University, is a Stanford University Certified Project Manager, and completed the Queens University Executive Program in 2017.
 
Sulemanu Koney
 
Chief Executive Officer
 
Mr. Sulemanu Koney is the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines the former Director for Analysis, Research and Finance. As a Director, he managed the industry’s engagements with stakeholders in the development of supply chain regimes, addressed security concerns and technical issues of the industry, in addition to the core scope of his portfolio.
 
Mr. Sulemanu Koney is a founding member of the Steering Committee of Ghana’s Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI). The Ghana EITI (GHEITI) provides a platform for the sharing of information among government, civil society and the companies on the Extractive industry.
 
Mr. Koney serves on the Boards of both private and public institutions, including the Board of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) of Ghana and the University of Mines and Technology. Before joining the Chamber, he worked with Shell Ghana Ltd. Mr. Koney is a Chemical Engineer.
