Charitable Initiatives

Jun 11, 2020
As Canadians, Cooper is committed to supporting our local communities in which we operate. From providing our community members with warm clothing and hot meals to collaborating with local organizations, the Cooper team gets together to help support our communities so we all can continue to be safe and healthy. From Alberta to Ontario to Quebec, Cooper’s support can be felt across the country.

Cooper Cares Program

Once every quarter, the Cooper Cares program dedicates our people, our equipment and our time to an organization, charity or fundraising event. In 2018, our Cooper Cares program was brought to life to deliver a little extra kindness to our community. It all started when our Calgary team decided to create a program to give back and help those in need. Whether that’s for a food drive, clothing drive, soup kitchen, volunteering event – you name it, we’re there and ready to help.

Sudbury Clothing Drive

Our Sudbury Clothing Drive is one of the most successful charitable events in the Greater City of Sudbury. The winter clothing drive is an initiative that was developed to help bring warmth to the Sudbury community. So far, we have collected over 30,000 winter clothing items in the past 3 years, with 14,431 clothing items collected in 2017 alone!

Food Drive

Every year, Cooper hosts a company-wide Food Drive to collect canned goods for those in need. The Food Drive is an important initiative to Cooper as we are committed to helping families that need a little extra support. In 2017, Cooper’s branch network managed to collect approximately 1500 lbs of non-perishable food items! All of the donated goods went to a charity or food bank of each branch’s choice. Thanks to our Cooper team we have been very successful with our Food Drive initiative over the years and we can’t wait to see the results of this year’s food drive!

Why Not Theatre Ignite Partners Program

At Cooper, we love giving back and supporting organizations that share the same values as us. This year, we are sponsoring the Why Not Theatre, an international theatre company based in Toronto, Canada. Just like us, they value innovation, community, and collaboration. The Why Not Theatre is not your typical theatre company, it is unique as it is the first nomadic theatre institution in Canada. Their company goal is to challenge the status quo and create change by getting people together to share ideas, values, and beliefs through their stories. Rather than focusing their efforts on managing a traditional brick and mortar venue, the Why Not Theatre is primarily focusing on growing their talent by hiring new staff and improving their artists. We deeply agree with their approach because at Cooper, we love coming up with creative solutions for our customers in order to get the job done. We care about our employees and we constantly think of new ways to help them grow to be the best version of themselves. We are super excited to be a part of this program as we believe it is important to understand the growing importance of expression and art culture in our community and are happy to support this community-based theatre!

Laugh Out Loud Initiative

The George Hull Centre is a hub for children’s mental health, supporting children up to the age of 18 and their families. Operating as an accredited mental health centre, they provide many services such as assessment, therapeutic plans, individual and group therapy for children of all ages as well as their families, information workshops, residential and day treatment for adolescents and substance abuse treatment for adolescents. The George Hull Centre’s Laugh Out Loud Initiative is their annual fundraiser and raises funds to support the centre and for children undergoing mental health issues and depression.

North Alberta International Children’s Festival

This year, we are proud to be a sponsor of the Northern Alberta International Children’s Festival! The festival is an annual six day arts and culture festival that supports artistic collaboration. Children are encouraged to share various performances, inspired by music, theatre and dance and to participate in exciting and educational activities.

Habitat for Humanity

With Cooper’s acquisition of 4-Way Equipment Rentals in Alberta, it was important to us to keep their tradition of sponsoring Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity works to help family’s access affordable homeownership. To date, this charity along with almost 100,000 volunteers have built more than 4,000 homes in 14 different countries. Cooper is excited to carry on the tradition and be a part of this wonderful initiative. The build in Edmonton will partner with families to construct 150 homes from July 9 – 14, 2017. Cooper will be on site with 10 volunteers to partake in the event.

Other Charitable Initiatives

Cooper is committed to supporting the local communities in which we operate. From repairing community centers to delivering hot meals to planting trees and repairing playgrounds, Cooper helps the communities we work in so that we all can continue to be safe and healthy. From Sudbury to Kingston and Toronto to Montreal, Cooper’s support is without borders.
