Chuquicamata

Jun 16, 2020

Chuquicamata (known as Chuqui) is the largest open pit copper mine in the world. Tapping one of the world’s largest-known copper deposits, it produces more than one-fourth of Chile’s copper. In 2014, the current open pit operation produced 340,400 metric tons of copper cathode and copper concentrate, 14,600 metric tons of molybdenum, 757 metric tons of gold and 187 metric tons of silver.

In 2016, the mine purchased 1,000 ft of ENDURASTABLE 600 PIW 4-Ply belting for the PTMP area on their RAHCO  Crosspit Spreader. The reversible conveyor runs at 4.5m/sec. Heavy abrasive material wear had been wearing out competitor’s belts in 21 days.

ENDURASTABLE features unique panels of breakers positioned in the top and bottom covers to match the size of the center carrying idler of the system. The bridging effect of the panels creates a rigid section and adds weight to the middle of the belt, driving it down into the trough and discouraging it from climbing the idlers in even the most extreme conditions. ENDURASTABLE’s unique properties make it especially useful in reversible systems.
