Community Cultural Centre

Mar 10, 2021

The construction of our new Community Cultural Centre overlooking the Roundhouse is complete.  We have had so much positive feedback and many people have commented that they are astounded we have such a magnificent Centre, Roundhouse, and surrounding landscaping. This is a remarkable achievement for our First Nation considering we have not received any Government funding for these projects.

As stated in previous newsletters, the main planned occupants for this building, between the months of May through September, are our Elders. For more details or to book your room for a week or two during this time, please speak with Councillor Irma Churchill.

The Centre will also be open for various meetings outside of this period and we are looking at different marketing options.  The contractors are continuing with the remaining landscaping surrounding the Centre and it is hoped to be completed this fall. Once this is done, a large decking and pathway will connect the building to the Roundhouse below. A reminder goes out that the area is still considered a construction site, so please take the proper precautions.

Note: Please do not use snowmachines to go up and down the hill during the winter months, as this may cause damage to the decking and to your machine. Miigwetch

The Community Cultural Centre consists of ten units, which will accommodate an Elder and either their partner or family member. The Centre is wheelchair friendly and also houses a great room, kitchen facilities, showers and outdoor decking area. The First Nation is pleased to offer this opportunity to our Elders so that they can be the first ones back on the land, in a safe and secure setting.

Out of respect for all occupants, this building is Pet and Smoke Free.  We have to remember that an individual's health may be compromised if they are exposed to these potential allergens.

Note - Guests are asked to bring indoor footwear (slippers, moccasins) when staying at the Cultural Centre.

Our people now have an awesome physical foundation where we can come together as a Community on our land-base.  Much thanks and appreciation go out to those people who selflessly volunteered their time and effort into making this monumental undertaking a success! We are proud to have this project nearly completed as it is an integral part of the Community Development Strategic Plan that was approved by the membership. We look forward to moving ahead with the next steps of the plan in the near future.
