The Community Services Department is responsible for planning, managing and directing the Social and Community Programs for Aamjiwnaang First Nation. Key programs under this unit are Culture & Recreation and the daily running of the Maawn Doosh Gumig Community & Youth Centre.  The Community Centre was expanded in 2012.  The new centre features a fitness centre, arts and crafts rooms, and a senior’s lounge. A skatepark and splashpad have also been added to the property.
 
The Centre hosts a variety of meetings, gatherings and events, such as Benefits, Annual General & Assembly Meetings, Environment Open House and Information sessions, multiply Science, Youth and Training camps and meetings for SFNS Mnaasged and  Children’s Aid Society
 
Community based social, recreation events and services are also coordinated by Community Service staff and community members. Events include, Solidarity Day, Powwow, Christmas Concert, etc.
 
Community Services Committee
 
Community Services staff organize meetings for the Community Services Committee. The Committee meets the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at Maawn Doosh Gumig. If you have a Community Services issue that you would like to raise please talk to one of the committee members or staff. The committee’s term is 2 years and members are chosen by Chief and Council.

Programs
 
Right to Play
 
The “RightToPlay” (Promoting Lifestyle for Aboriginal Youth) program teaches life skills to youth ages 12 to 24. 
 
Youth Programming
 
Youth programming for ages 10 into the teen years. Events and programs included Aboriginal Youth Olympics along with numerous group trips with RightToPlay.
 
Headstart
 
Headstart is a weekly program aimed at children ages 0 – 6 yrs. and their parents. Headstart addresses the learning and developmental needs of young children, supporting early childhood development. The programs run twice a week on Monday from 10 am – 1 pm, and Wednesday from 5 – 7 pm.

Bus Driver – Student Transportation

The Aamjiwnaang First Nation Education Department is currently seeking a school Bus Driver, to provide transportation to students who reside on the Aamjiwnaang First Nation and attend the Kindergarten program, public school and other educational institutions.

Housing Case Manager

This position is responsible for establishing permanent housing and supporting Indigenous and other Housing Clients who have a serious mental illness and are homeless or at risk of being homeless. 

Personal Support Worker (PSW)

To deliver homecare to the Aamjiwnaang First Nation community members. 

Human Resources Officer

Reporting to the Band Manager the Human Resources Officer is primarily responsible to support staff and management on policy interpretations and grievance matters; conducts recruitment and selection processes and provides progressive and expert HR guidance to all levels of staff on policy and legislation interpretation, providing solutions to a wide spectrum of complex HR issues.
