About the Kenabutch Health Centre
 
SRFN Community Wellness Department is overseen by Community Wellness Manager and is responsible for the process of planning, organizing, monitoring, and evaluating human and financial resources in order to achieve the programs goals and objectives in the most effective and efficient manner in health and social services programs and services.
 
Health Promotion and Prevention Services include Immunization, Communicable Diseases  and Infection Control, General Environmental Health, Morbidity and Mortality, Over the counter medications, Medical Transportation, Non-Insured Health Benefits, Visiting Health Professionals, Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program, Healthy Babies-Healthy Children,  Community Health Education and Awareness, and Diabetes Program.
 
Our Mental Health Team
 
The Mental Health team will provide holistic support in a manner that respects diverse needs, values and traditions to children, youth adults and co-workers of the community and increase awareness of mental health and addictions and services and resources, as well as provide assessments, referrals and counselling.

Our Cultural Program
 
Through land based activities, we provide opportunities for community members to exercise their Anishnabek Rights and Freedom through their connection to the land. Through these activities and programs, we will contribute to ensuring that we have a strong and proud Anishinabek identity for the years to come.
 
Annually, on the weekend after the August Civic Holiday long weekend, Serpent River First Nation hosts its Traditional Gathering, otherwise known as the Serpent River First Nation Powwow. Multiple drums and dancers from across the province will gather in prayer and celebration for the weekend.

About the Geka Wigwam
 
The Geka Wigwam provides a seniors complex for community elders.
 
  • 24-hour support services that range in length based upon the needs of individuals.
  • Coordinates social, physical, recreational, cultural and educational activities for residents of the home.
  • Basic and advanced practice foot care.
  • Blood sugar monitoring.
  • Checking of vital signs.
  • Congregate dining.
  • Emergency transmitter systems.
  • Housekeeping.
  • Medication assistance.
  • Nursing care.
  • Personal care.
  • Adult Day Program.
  • Helpline.
  • Home and community care program.
  • Meals on Wheels.
 
Eligibility
 
The Geka Wigwam Senior’s Home is open to individuals ages 60+
 
  • Serpent River First Nation community members are given first priority.
  • Open to others if space is available.
  • Members of SRFN who require home services due to age or disabilities, must be ambulatory.
  • Eligibility consideration determined upon review by House Manager and Community Wellness Manager.

About the Child Well Being Unit
 
The Serpent River First Nation Circle of Care Model identifies a Team approach for child wellbeing services for its membership. The Team will consist of the Child Well-Being Unit Supervisor as a team supervisor, with the Community Support Services Worker, and the Family Preservation Workers. This team will provide Band Support, In-Home and Out of Home Family Support to children and their families as well as  primary prevention activities and programs to the membership of the Serpent  River First Nation.

The Serpent River First Nation Lifestyle Centre
 
The Lifestyle Centre is responsible for the following:
 
  • Planning, developing and implementing all social, recreational and special events for members of the community.
  • Provides after-school programs for children in the community.
  • Offers fitness training programs and education for all age groups.
  • Provides a community facility with a gymnasium and basketball court.
  • Houses a fitness centre equipped with treadmills, elliptical trainers, weight machines and the services of a personal trainer.
  • Hosts various sports events and tournaments.
  • Offers an Elder’s room, boardroom, lounge area and kitchen.
  • Offers facility rentals to community groups.

The Educator is responsible for children in all aspects related to the development of their academic learning skills, hygiene, health, well-being, and safety.
