2012 Levitt-Safety/Threads of Life Charity Golf Tournament

We were thrilled to kick off our inaugural Threads of Life/ Levitt-Safety Charity Golf Tournament on Friday August 10th. For the past 10 years, our golf tournament was a customer appreciation day with all expenses paid for by Levitt-Safety.

This year, we decided to expand our efforts in our local community by donating all proceeds to Threads of Life. The first annual Levitt-Safety/Threads of Life Charity Golf Tournament was by all accounts an overwhelming success, considering we had a rainy August day with weather that certainly wasn’t ideal for golf. We managed to play three rounds before calling it quits and moving indoors. The golf committee (Nataly Carbone, Norbert Nobrega, Dave Wootten and Marissa Wolicki from Threads of Life) did a great job organizing the event and making the tournament run smoothly.

The tournament unfortunately wasn’t fully subscribed; we had a total of 88 golfers - that’s half of what we would have liked and what we hope to have for attendance next year. We managed to get every hole sponsored with the help of our generous vendors, customers and professional contacts.

Following the golf tournament, Levitt-Safety hosted a dinner reception that included a silent auction, as well as raffles. Through the combined efforts of sponsors, golfers and volunteers, we were able to raise over $10,000. This is a true testament to the generosity and caring of the individuals and organizations that participated in this event.

A special thanks to Nicole Wootten, Cameron Hennings and Mike Brown who volunteered to help out with the tournament.

The agenda for next year’s activities will again be working with Threads of Life as a charity event. Get the word out now and let’s make this an even more successful tournament!  See you next year, on Friday June 26th, 2013.

Threads of Life

The Association for Workplace Tragedy Family Support (known as Threads of Life) is a national registered Canadian charity dedicated to supporting families along their journey of healing who have suffered from a workplace fatality, life-altering illness or occupational disease. Their network of family members and corporate partners believe traumatic workplace injuries, occupational diseases and deaths are preventable.

Through community action such as the Steps for Life walks, and participation in the Speakers Bureau, they effect a change in attitudes and behaviours where injuries are no longer considered to be “just the cost of doing business.”  We strive for safer workplaces for Canadian families.

Winston Park Challange
Septemeber 2009 - In support of the United Way of Oakville, Levitt-Safety participated in the annual Winston Park Challenge Fundraiser on Tuesday, September 15. This fun-filled day allowed for local companies to compete in a number of corporate challenge events to raise awareness for the work done by the local United Way.

Although the effort of the team fell short of victory, all participants look forward to competing again next year where they will once again show off their team spirit and company pride. The team wishes to thank everyone involved for their dedication to such a worthy cause, as well as the Levitt-Safety cheering section for showing their unwavering support.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, faith-based organization whose mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means of breaking the poverty cycle.

September 2009 - With hard hats in hand and the spirit of giving in mind, a small group of Levitt-Safety Oakville employees joined forces with some friends from Timberland Pro to participate in the “Adopt-A-Day” program with the Habitat for Humanity Toronto organization. While some duties were more glamorous than others, each individual quickly learned that although a task may not produce drastic changes in the structure of the overall project, it would serve as a small step towards the completion of the community. This venture was not about building a house from start to finish but rather was a lesson in the vast importance of a seemingly minor task. Although the day was a challenge in physical and mental strength, the opportunity to give those less fortunate a home to call their own was well worth it.
