Designation of an MMD Mineral Sizer
The current range of sizers is from 500 series to 1500 series and each sizer is specially manufactured to satisfy the project requirements. Below are the characteristics of an MMD sizer, which identify its design.
Centre Distance of ShaftsThis is the measurement in millimetres, between the centre line of the two shafts. It is the main designation of an MMD sizer and is often referred to by the series number i.e. 500series sizer = 500mm centre distance(centres).

Length of InletThe length of inlet is the length in millimetres of the sizing chamber.

Tooth ConfigurationThe tooth configuration in conjunction with a breaker bar, when fitted, controls the product size. |
|
Breaker BarThe adjustable breaker bar, when fitted, is bolted underneath the shafts and can be moved up and down to add another stage to the breaking process. This is only fitted to 3/4tooth. |
|
Inward / Outward Shaft RotationInward shaft rotation is the standard method of operation for most types of tooth configuration and must be used on wet/sticky materials.

Breaker Combs
Breaker combs are static teeth which protrude from the side plate into the sizing chamber, and nestle between the sizing teeth. They are used when the shaft rotation is outward running, for the rotating teeth to chop through.
Cleaning Combs
These are specially shaped static teeth which also protrude from the side plate into the sizing chamber, and snuggly fit arround and between the sizing teeth. These are usually fitted in very wet and sticky situations, and act as a continuous cleaning system to prevent clogging of the teeth and optimise sizing efficiency. Cleaning combs can also act as reversing combs.
Reversing Combs
These are shaped static blocks which protrude from the side plate into the sizing chamber, and nestle between the sizing teeth. Reversing combs stop oversize material from passing through the sides of the machine and also in the event of reversing the shafts eliminate the problem of material being jammed between the side plate and the teeth.
