Dragline NDE

Dec 14, 2015

Global's Dragline Inspection team is well experienced in full Non-Destructive Evaluation on Draglines.

Our Crack Detection program has been extremely cost effective for this type of equipment. No longer do coatings have to scrapped or grinded off to identify cracks in welds and structural components. This has saved numerous hours in the inspection process. Our Ultrasonic experts use state of the art Phased Array Ultrasonics to give the client a better analysis inside larger shafts and pins, reducing the time for the Ultrasonic Inspection. Our reports are all electronic providing the ability to archive for future reference.

Global provides reliable and accurate Dragline Inspections with the following:
• Linking our inspections to planned and unplanned maintenance shutdowns, reducing downtime by reducing inspection time.
• Providing immediate feedback on high risk situations.
• Maintaining certified safety standards for employees and job sites.
• Providing pre job consultation and modifications based on customer objectives.
• Submitting superior detailed illustrated reports.
• Providing ongoing support as needed to our customers.

GEAR AUDITS FOR DRAGLINES USING THE GEAR-PRO™ METHOD

To understand operational and production behavior of operational machinery, a robust data collection and examination process must be established. This data collection and examination process forms part of an integral part of an effective overall Reliability Centered Maintenance Program (RCM). This process is commonly known as Condition Based Monitoring (CBM). Analysis of the data collected over time, often referred to as "trending", may show a pattern signifying developing issues. The objective is to identify and closely monitor any developing issues, before it negatively affects the performance of the critical gear unit due to unscheduled downtime (best case) or a catastrophic failure (worst case).
The Gear-Pro™ method used for gear audits on draglines provides electromagnetic methods for preparation and examination of gear teeth on dragline gear drives, particularly on the addendum, dedendum, and root areas. This method addresses the need to detect surface breaking flaws electronically and to have the ability to accurately size any surface breaking cracks found on cast and forged dragline gear drives faster and more effectively than other methods.
Gear-Pro™ is cleaner, faster, documentable, covers a larger area in less inspection time and greatly improves Probability of Detection than any other traditional Non-Destructive Testing methods today for gearing applications.
The principal advantages of Gear-Pro™ over other examination methods, including ultrasonic flaw detection is the faster scanning speed and the fact that no coupling fluid is required. In a single pass with this method, you get a better idea of the structure of the fault also get a topographic representation of the defect.

DRAGLINE LUBRICATION ANALYSIS

Global provides analytical Ferrography Testing for lubrication analysis, whether it be gear oil or lubrication from bearings. By analyzing the colour, morphology, size, and surface detail of ferrous and nonferrous wear particles, accurate information can be provided about the type, severity and root cause of abnormal wear. This insightful historical data enables maintenance experts to implement predictive and effective actions based on this important information.
