Economic Development
- Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community
- Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills
- Responsible for development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members
- Works to access funding for band-owned business ventures
- Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
- Posts available jobs and details on website and at Band Office
- Maintains local business directory
Current economic development initiatives Flying Post First Nation is involved with include:
- Exploration Agreement (EA) with Augen Gold Corporation (in partnership with Mattagami and Brunswick House First Nations)
- Exploration Agreement with Lake Shore Gold Corporation (in partnership with Mattagami First Nation)
- A resource development agreement with Goldcorp for Goldcorp's existing and future mining operations in the Timmins area; the agreement includes provisions for training, employment, business and contracting opportunities, a consultation framework for regulatory permitting, and scholarship and bursary opportunities for youth
