At Detour Gold, we promote and practice high standards of environmental stewardship. We apply a proactive risk prevention approach to safeguarding the environment, and strive to create a culture of environmental awareness where everyone takes part in minimizing our ecological footprint.
 
Our team is comprised of dedicated, dynamic and professional individuals with a rich combination of technical and local cultural knowledge. The environmental team provides leadership and support to all personnel to meet and exceed compliance with all standards, as well as to work towards achieving environmental excellence.
 
We are committed to transparency in our environmental work, and openly share information on our programs and our measured performance with employees, local communities and other stakeholders. We operate in full compliance with all industry regulations and environmental permits, and work closely with consultants, partners and stakeholders to ensure our activities meet or exceed industry standards.
 
We have the responsibility to protect and conserve our surroundings, including air and water quality. Our environmental management system is integrated across the entire life-cycle of our activities: from exploration, development, operation to closure. While we are developing a much larger mine operation, we are building upon the original footprint of the prior Detour Lake mine which closed in the late 1990’s. Having the baseline data and the understanding of the successful closure from the previous mine gives us an advantage in planning our operation and effectively addressing our reclamation and closure obligations. Our ultimate goal is to return the land to its natural viable state and maintain its biodiversity.
