Story Environmental Inc. prepares Environmental Compliance Approval ("ECA") Applications for industries, municipalities, and private individuals. These can be for Air & Noise, Waste Management and Handling Facilities, Sewage Works, Drinking Water Treatment Systems, and Permits to Take Water.
All facilities located in Ontario that release emissions to the atmosphere, discharge contaminants to ground and surface water, provide potable water supplies or store, transport, process or dispose of waste are required to obtain a ECA from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment ("MOE"). The Environmental Compliance Approval permit various activities to proceed in compliance with the applicable legislation and also provide enforceable requirements that ensure protection of human health and the natural environment. Approvals should be obtained prior to the commencement of construction of any such facility. Changes to the approved facility may also require amendments to the existing ECA's.
The approval process is outlined below:
• Pre-submission consultation meeting(s) with the MOE;
• Preparation of the ECA application package;
• Submission of the ECA application to the Environmental Assessment and Approvals Branch ("EEAB") of the MOE;
• ECA application reviewed by the EEAB;
• Decision by the EEAB.
The ECA application package includes information about the applicant, the location of the proposed facility, site specific details, and any other supporting documentation. ECA applications are split between four categories:
