WESTROCK – STEEL STRUCTURE

To allow for a change in its packaging product manufacturing process, the Westrock plant had to modify part of its Building #1. The integration of mechanical elements and the necessary modifications to the steel structures posed a significant design challenge.
 
 
TRINUM uses high-performance computer tools to work with complex structural geometries in 3D. Our designers were therefore able to produce all of the drawings for the project. In addition, our structural engineer was able to validate the structural calculations and all the connections.
 
 
IAMGOLD – ORE CHUTE

Iamgold is a Canadian mining company operating a large gold mine in Suriname, South America. To increase the ore’s processing capacity, the mine undertook construction work which included the addition of a large chute for the passage of high-tonnage minerals.
 
 
Given the technical complexity of the ore chute, the manufacturer commissioned TRINUM to design it. Our expertise in the design of ore transfer points made it possible to optimize the wear plates, validate the ore flow and manufacture a chute that is easy to transport to South America and easy to install on site.
 
 
CANADIAN MALARTIC – CONVEYOR AND CHUTE
 
LOCATION Malartic, Québec

The Canadian Malartic mine is the largest open pit gold mine in Canada. In 2016, they decided to build a new truck unloading station to feed the ore stock pile. The project required the following equipment:
 
  • An discharge hopper
  • An Apron feeder
  • A 180-meter conveyor with an underground section
  • A transfer tower to an existing conveyor
  • A transfer chute
 
The site configuration was problematic as the unloading of the new conveyor had to feed the existing conveyor at a 90-degree angle. The design of the transfer point and the detail of the chute was therefore particularly delicate.
 
 
In collaboration with the equipment manufacturer, TRINUM designed and produced all the manufacturing plans for the conveyor, transfer tower and main chute. TRINUM’s expertise in numerical modeling of bulk solid material flow was a determining factor in the project’s success. Indeed, our experts used advanced simulation and numerical calculation tools to ensure that the 90-degree drop would operate under all conditions without any blockages.
 
Our technicians supervised construction and start-up. The mine has not reported any problems with this equipment in over 4 years of use.
