Fall Protection Equipment Services

Jul 14, 2020

Your safety while working at heights depends on the proper performance of your fall protection equipment.

Harnesses, retractable lanyards, SRLs, tripods, davit arms, winches and static lines are effective in minimizing the risk of working at height – as long as they’re in proper working order. It’s critical that your fall protection equipment be used, stored, inspected and cleaned correctly.

Levitt-Safety will inspect, clean, service and even proof-load an array of fall protection equipment. We are authorized service centers for 3M(formerly Capital Safety, DBI-Sala & Protecta brands) and Honeywell (North, Titan, and Miller) brands. Our manufacturer-trained and certified techs will ensure all fall protection products are in compliance with CSA Standard Z259.

We now provide our fall protection maintenance, inspection and repair services at your facilities with our Mobile Fall Protection Truck!

Harness & Lanyard Inspection

To maintain their service life and high performance, all lanyards and harnesses should be inspected frequently. Visual inspection before each use should become routine, but a more thorough inspection by a trained and competent person should be done at regular intervals.
  • Manufacturers and CSA  require the product to be inspected at least annually by a competent person
  • Before each use, manufacturers require an inspection (by the user)
  • After an impact, the product must be removed from service
Levitt-Safety also offers cleaning of harnesses and lanyards.

Safety Winch Service

Manufacturers recommend that winches be serviced and re-certified every year (extreme working conditions may require increasing the frequency), and also:
  • On a monthly basis the manufacturers recommends that a competent person other than the user formally inspect the winches
  • Before each use, the manufacturers require winches to be inspected (by the user)

Self-Retracting Lifelines (SRL) Service

Self-retracting lifelines (SRL) & self-retracting devices (SRD)
Self-retracting lifelines are effective in minimizing the risk of working at heights – but, to do this properly they must be in good working order and must be used, stored, inspected and cleaned correctly.
Levitt-Safety is an authorized service center for 3M (formerly Capital Safety, DBI-Sala & Protecta brands), MSA and Honeywell (North, Titan and Miller brands).

How often do self-retracting lifelines need to be serviced?
Until recently SRLs needed to be inspected two years after buying (from new) and then annually after that time.
The CSA group’s new SRL standard Z259.2.2-17 bases inspection requirements on the equipment’s environmental and storage conditions. We covered this topic in our blog “14 BS facts about safety you might think are true.” With the new standard, SRLs have to be serviced every five years for light use, two years for heavy use and once annually for severe use.

Tripods/Davit Systems

Manufacturers require at least a monthly inspection on all tripods and davit systems by a competent person, and also:
  • Before each use, manufacturers, CSA, OSHA and ANSI require an inspection (by the user)
  • After an impact, the product must be removed from service, inspected, and recertified
