GSA Foundation Names New Executive Director

May 3, 2021

Debbie Marcinkowski

Boulder, Colo., USA: The Geological Society of America Foundation (GSAF) Board of Trustees have announced the promotion of Debbie Marcinkowski to the newly created position of Executive Director for the Foundation. In recognition of Marcinkowski’s strong leadership, the position of Foundation President has been combined with her current operational and strategic Director of Development duties.

“I have been fortunate to work with and for outstanding people at the Foundation and the Society, from the staff and volunteer leadership at both organizations, to donors and members,” said Marcinkowski. “I value the opportunity to continue doing so in this new position, as GSAF aims for even greater impact through fundraising for GSA's programs and priorities.”

Marcinkowski has been key to the success of GSAF for almost nine years. She brings a deep understanding of GSA combined with a wealth of knowledge about our donors and nonprofit fundraising. Originally from the Washington, D.C., area, she has extensive experience, including director and management level roles, in funding, corporate, and global partnerships. Debbie has a master’s degree in nonprofit management from American University, Washington, D.C.

“There are many exciting things happening at GSA,” said Board of Trustees Chair Wes Ward, “and the Foundation staff and Board of Trustees are looking forward to GSAF’s future as we eagerly move forward.”

About The Geological Society of America Foundation

The mission of the Geological Society of America Foundation (GSAF) is to develop and provide funds to support the goals and programs of the Geological Society of America (GSA). The Foundation was created in 1980 to raise funds in support of the Decade of North American Geology—the signature event of GSA’s centennial in 1988. The Foundation subsequently secured support for a major expansion of GSA headquarters in Boulder, Colorado, USA. Today, the GSAF continues to serve current and future donors by providing information and solutions that align their philanthropic interests with GSA programs and priorities. Through this partnership with GSA members and corporate supporters, the GSAF is now able to provide over US$1 million annually to the Society.
