Vision: Together, community members, leadership, staff and the Health department build a stable, sustainable, safe community, where elders, adults, and children live free from fear, free from want, and free from harm.
 
We are a team of hardworking individuals responsible for the health care needs of the community. Our services range from physical to mental health care needs and everything in between. The following is a list of the services the Health Department provide:
 
  • Public health
  • Immunizations for all ages
  • Education on chronic diseases management
  • Homemaker services
  • Home care services
  • Programming for healthy babies
  • Booking appointments with various health care provider
  • Arranging rides and accommodations to appointments both local and long distance
  • NNADAP services
  • Arranging for both counselling and Psychiatry appointments
  • Education on FASD
  • Crisis team management/programming
  • Emergency First Response team
  • Fire department team management
  • Medical Transportation
  • First aid training, Suicide first aid training
 
We provide educational serves in all aspects of health care with an emphasis on chronic disease management, such as:
 
  • Heart disease, high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke
  • Lung disease, Diabetes, Immunization, FASD
  • Traditional family life; Babies, child, youth, adult and elder
  • Anti-Bullying, Anger management
  • Traditional harvesting of strawberries, sage and sweetgrass
 
The Health Department has been working on numerous projects over the past year, such as:
 
  • The introduction of the Family Wellbeing Program. The goal of the program is to create a safe environment for children, youth, and adults to speak freely
  • The development of the “safe room" with help from the NNADAP Worker is now being used as a room for counselling services provided by Minto Counselling
  • The transfer of the Home Maker program to the Health Clinic has been a success with having the workers enter the homes of elders and other community members that require assistance
  • The enhancement of the “Thursday Lunch Soup Kitchen”. We now provide 30-50 meals that are high in protein and low in fat
  • The Crisis Team has provided “Suicide Awareness” for all Wahgoshig Staff, and the old fire truck has been serviced
  • Dr. Tempier has been providing on-site psychiatric services
 
Our overall goals for next year will be to continue to develop the policies and procedures required to ensure that the health services at Wahgoshig First Nation are always to the highest standard, increase the amount of nursing services and Home Makers provided to the community, and explore funding options to be able to purchase new fire truck and equipment.

Human Resources Administrator

The position of the Human Resources Administrator is responsible for ensuring that the overall administration, coordination, and evaluation of human resources plans and programs are realized.

Personal Support Worker

The position of the Personal Support Worker is responsible for people who are ill, elderly or need help with daily tasks at Wahgoshig First Nation.
