Six Nations Health Services Gedeo Team Launching Virtual CommUNITY Wellness Series Family Day

Feb 11, 2021
On Monday February 15, 2021 (Family Day) at 3PM, Six Nations Health Services (SNHS) Gedeo Team will be launching CommUNITY: Virtual Wellness Series.

Gedeo translates to compassion in the Cayuga language, and the Gedeo team provides crisis management services to the Six Nations community.

CommUNITY will feature a number of Indigenous speakers and focus on elements of the mind, body, spirit and emotions to inspire healing and wellness through humour, ceremony, music, sport, and cooking.

The purpose of this series is to allow members, and neighbours to connect with each other virtually while social distancing, and to promote health and wellness during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We recognize that this has been and continues to be a difficult year for our community. This initiative hopes to bring people together to enjoy some fun and entertainment in a safe way virtually.

The series will kick off on Family Day and will take place every other Saturday after that, with the final installment happening on May 15, 2021.

Each event will take place over Zoom, and be livestreamed to @Six.Nations.Grand.River Facebook.

Comedian Stan Wesley will lead the CommUNITY Family Day Kickoff, which will be a light-hearted program focusing on Humour as Medicine.

The second CommUNITY installment on March 6 will feature Elder Tom Porter, who will be discussing the importance of ceremony and traditional teachings.

The third installment of the wellness series will take place on March 20, where local musician Big Joe will take the stage to share the healing power of music, as well as his personal experience with recovery and wellness.

Participants in each CommUNITY virtual event also have the opportunity to win a Wellness Box: a prize pack consisting of health and wellness-focused items from local businesses. 10 of these boxes are up for grabs during each event and participants must register in advance to be eligible. Registration for the first series ends Sunday February 14 at 2PM by emailing sncoas@sixnations.ca.
