Inflow and Infiltration Studies (I&I)
|
Story Environmental Inc. provides services regarding inflow and infiltration into sanitary sewer infrastructure. Typically, these studies involve the following:
• Determination of what the "normal" baseline flows should be for an area;
• Verifying the actual and permitted flows through the sewage treatment plant;
• Verifying the actual flow from the drinking water plant;
• Installation of flow recording devices along with the design and implementation of control charts to track flows;
• Identification and quantification of those portions of the sanitary system where either inflow, infiltration or both are significant which can involve: manhole inspections; close-circuit television surveys ("CCTV"); in-line flow monitoring; effluent sampling;
• Installation of rain gauges and logging devices;
• Installation of groundwater monitoring wells;
• Surveys to determine how storm water is handled in an area;
• Topographic surveying and mapping; and
interviews with residents.
Once the study has been completed, a report is published prioritizing the areas that should be addressed in succession to reduce the affects of I&I on the sanitary system. Recommendations are also provided regarding how to reduce and/or eliminate the affects of I&I in each area.
