Discover the Copper Basin with the NaMAPI app

Jul 16, 2020

Install, be inspired, discover - KGHM Polska Miedź SA and the local governments of Lower Silesia invite residents and tourists to visit unknown places in the Copper Belt. The free application for mobile phones, naMEDI, will take users on an intriguing journey through the region.

- The Copper Basin is a unique region and KGHM is its foundation. Our goal is to share knowledge and make the inhabitants of our region proud. We encourage you to go out with your family from four walls and take walks in the immediate vicinity to discover unknown places - said Marcin Chludziński, President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź SA

- We have a sense of responsibility for the local community, for the natural environment, but also for promoting the cultural heritage of the Copper Basin. The NaMEDZI application will help residents and tourists to discover this beautiful and interesting region in an innovative way. The launch of naMEDZI is the result of our intense dialogue with local governments and the implementation of common long-term goals - added Chludziński.

The free application for phones starts with over 20 routes between Legnica and Głogów. 250 points related to local history, monuments and curiosities from the region are described with short texts and illustrated with photos and film materials.

- In research carried out in 2019 by the KGHM Foundation and local governments, it turned out that approximately 30% of young people from the LGOM area in their adulthood would most like to live abroad. Through joint actions with communes and counties, we want to change this trend. We build a sense of belonging and pride in a small homeland, which is the Copper Belt. Together with local governments, we want to keep young people in the region and in Poland - says Lidia Marcinkowska-Bartkowiak, general director of communication at KGHM.

The naMEDZI application serves the entire region. Five thematic paths are dedicated to Polish copper, from which the common name of the Copper Basin comes. Application users will have the opportunity to e.g. find out for what purpose drones are used under the change and what path the gray copper ore has to travel to turn into a rusty orange cathode with 99.99% Cu content. The application will also provide information on current events in the region.

To use the COPPER application, you only need a mobile phone or tablet with Internet access, location function and Bluetooth. Thanks to the use of Beacon technology, the content of some points is hidden and will be displayed only when the application user is physically in a specific location. This is to encourage active exploring the Copper Basin.

The application was created thanks to the cooperation of KGHM Polska Miedź SA and the local governments of the Copper Belt. The attraction will be constantly updated with new places, photos and videos.
