Cambrian College receives a Spotlight Award from the Association of Canadian Community Colleges for its Native Community Care Counselling and Development program.

Cambrian College recieves the Achievement in Employment Equity Award from the Ontario Women's Directorate.


1991

January
Heather Segsworth, a Professor of Literacy in Preparatory programs, is acknowledged nationally with the 1991 ACCC Teaching Excellence Award.


1992

November
Mary Jonik, a Professor in Ontario Basic Skills, is one of four Ontario college alumni to win a Premier's Award. The Award was created by the province in honour of the college system's 25th anniversary.

December
Dr. Walter Curlook, Vice Chair of Inco Limited and founding Chair of the Cambrian College Board of Governors, is the first Canadian to be presented with a Benefactor Award by the United States-based National Council for Resource Development.


2000

September
The first Cambrian College/NORCAT Innovation Award is presented to BESTECH Engineering at the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards event.


2001

February
The Trillium Award for Excellence for College Web Design is presented to Cambrian College at the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology's annual College Committee on Advancement Conference


2002

May
Cambrian College receives the prestigious Chair's Award from the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce. Presented at the Chamber's 2002 Business Excellence Awards gala, the Award recognizes significant impact on the community and involvement in business and/or professional associations and community service.

November
Cambrian receives an Yves Landry Foundation Award in the Outstanding Technical Co-operative Education Program category at the annual STARS Gala in Toronto. The Yves Landry Awards recognize the achievements of Canadian colleges, universities, and high schools and are presented to those educational institutions which best demonstrate technological innovation, creativity, and excellence in their programs.


2003

February
Cambrian receives a Premier's Award, an Association of Applied Arts and Technology of Ontario (ACAATO) Award, and a Trillium Award at college conferences in Toronto. Premier Ernie Eves presents Martin Bayer, Cambrian Alumnus and Vice Chair of the Board, with the Premier's Award in the Business category; Inco Limited and Cambrian College accept the 2003 ACAATO Partnership Award; Linda Wilson, Director of Marketing and Institutional Relations, receives a Trillium Award of Excellence in the Special Achievement Award for Outstanding Initiative in Advancement of the Ontario College System category.

Jean-Guy Robichaud, a professor in Cambrian's Hospitality programs, is the 2003 recipient of the Glenn Crombie Memorial Award. The Award is given out annually by the provincial College Committee on Disability Issues to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to students with disabilities and/or to the field of disability services in the Ontario Community College system.

Niilo Tuhkasaari, a first-year student in the Computer Systems Technology program at Cambrian College is a first- place winner in the 2003 College Association for Language and Literacy (C.A.L.L.) student writing contest in the Applied Business Writing category.

Cambrian College is awarded the Minister's Award for Excellence in recognition of its commitment to excellence and for its efforts to continuously improve the services it delivers through its Sudbury Job Connect program.


2004

February
The Association of Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology of Ontario (ACAATO) presents a 2004 ACAATO Award to both Ron MacDonald, a past Chair and a past member of Cambrian's Board of Governors, and Susan Alcorn MacKay, Director of The Glenn Crombie Centre for disability services. MacDonald receives the Community Volunteer Award and Alcorn MacKay receives the Distinguished Service Award.

Cambrian College's Dental Hygiene program is honoured with an Oral-B Health Promotion Award in the Dental Hygiene School category. The awards program, which is sponsored by the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA) and Oral-B Laboratories, is designed to encourage hygienists to promote oral health in their communities, particularly during National Dental Hygienists Week.
 
June
Andrew Knapp, a 2004 graduate of Cambrian College's three-year Graphic Design program, receives the Best Canadian Student award at the 2004 Flash In The Can competition. Sponsored by Macromedia Canada, this national Web design competition features categories for both students and professionals.

Alan Viitala, a graduating student from the Electrical Engineering Technology program at Cambrian College, is a first-place winner in the 2004 province-wide College Association of Language and Literacy (CALL) writing contest in the Business and Technical Writing category.

Elizabeth (Betty) Freelandt, Cambrian's Vice President, Student Services and Strategic Initiatives, is named the 2004 recipient of the Distinguished Administrator Award by the Ontario College Administrative Staff Association (OCASA).


2005

March
Susan Alcorn MacKay, Director of Disability Services at Cambrian's Glenn Crombie Centre, is honoured with the 2005 OCASA Doug Light Award for Administrative Excellence by the Ontario College Administrative Staff Association (OCASA).

Tyler Charlebois, Cambrian Students' Administrative Council President, receives the Association of Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology of Ontario (ACAATO) Student Leadership Award.
 
Cambrian College is the winner of the Signature Dessert and the Outstanding Display awards at the More Than Just Desserts fundraising event in support of The Arthritis Society, Sudbury.

The Chair Academy honours Susan Alcorn MacKay, Director of Disability Services at Cambrian's Glenn Crombie Centre, with a 2005 International Exemplary Leadership Award at the Chair Academy's annual International Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Award honours administrators who best exemplify and support academic and administrative leadership.
 
May
Chris MacDonell, a second-year student in Cambrian College's Computer Systems Technology program, is the winner of the silver medal at the Skills Canada - Ontario technological skills competition in Kitchener-Waterloo. MacDonell competed in the IT/PC Network Support portion of the event. The Skills Canada - Ontario competition provides participants with the opportunity to showcase their talents and test themselves against industry standards.
November

Second-year Police Foundations students and program coordinator Ernie Walchuk were recognized for their efforts in assisting the Greater Sudbury Police Services "in a manner that goes beyond what is normally exhibited by community members" during the Greater Sudbury Police Services Board's annual awards presentations. The College's second-year Police Foundations students were recognized for their commitment and leadership to the "Community Watch" program at Ryan Heights.


2006

February
Cheri Corbiere, President of the Cambrian Native Student's Association (CNSA), receives the Association of Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology of Ontario (ACAATO) Student Innovation Award at the 2006 ACAATO Conference in Sudbury, Ontario. The Award recognizes the contribution made by a current student, a group of students, or a student partnership in the development and implementation of innovative programs and services that meet a need that was not previously being met.

Jennifer Cawley-Caruso, a professor in the Child and Youth Worker program at Cambrian, is the 2006 recipient of The Glenn Crombie Memorial Award. The Award is given out annually by the provincial College Committee on Disability Issues to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to students with disabilities and/or to the field of disability services in the Ontario Community College system.

January
Les Lisk, Chair of the Steering Committee for the Sustainable Energy Centre of Excellence at Cambrian College, and long-time local educator, receives the William G. Davis Community Volunteer Award from The Association of Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology of Ontario (ACAATO).

April
Marion Harvey Hannah, a professor in Cambrian College's Music program and the Music Director of the Bel Canto Chorus in Sudbury, receives the YWCA Sudbury Women of Distinction Award in the Arts and Culture category at an awards gala and fund-raiser.

May
Cheri Corbiere, President of the Cambrian Native Student's Association (CNSA), and a student in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, receives the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) Student Leadership Excellence Award.

October
Larry Bouchard, Cambrian's Dean of the Centre for Community and Workforce Development, receives the J. David Stewart Memorial Leadership Award for Management Personnel at the annual Heads of Continuing Education Conference Awards ceremony in London, Ontario.

Cambrian College's eDome is selected as one of the finalists for the Canadian Information Productivity Award (CIPA), Canada's oldest and largest award program in the field of information technology.
 
Cambrian College's Wellness Committee is honoured with a gold award sponsored by Heart Health and the Sudbury and District Health Unit. The award is designed to recognize workplaces who achieve their goals of improving the health and well-being of their employees.

Cambrian President Sylvia Barnard receives an award from the Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association in recognition of her contribution to international education.


2008

February
Betty Freelandt, Vice President of Student Services and Strategic Initiatives, is named the 2008 winner of the Doug Light Award for Administrative Excellence by the Ontario College Administrative Staff Association (OCASA).

March
Cambrian College's Baking and Pastry Arts Students are awarded the Outstanding Table Display Award at the fourth annual “More than Just Desserts” event in support of the Arthritis Society.

April
Joyce Helmer, Chair of the Wabnode Institute, receives an Award of Excellence from the Canadian Network for Innovation in Education (CNIE) on behalf of a collaboration that includes Cambrian College, Hôpital régional de Sudbury Regional Hospital, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), and Laurentian University School of Nursing and Laurentian University Instructional Media Centre.

May
Marcia Ranger, a professor in Cambrian College's Electrical Engineering Technology program is honoured with the 2008 Glenn Beatty Award in recognition of her volunteer efforts at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition and her impact on young people in the community.
 
Josh Ryan, a third-year student in Cambrian College's Computer Systems Technology program captures a silver medal at the 14th annual Canadian Skills Competition. Earlier in the year, he also won the provincial gold medal at the 19th annual Ontario Technological Skills Competition.

Matt Rocca, a third-year student in Cambrian College's Graphic Design program wins the 50 Carleton & Associates Award of Excellence for Northern Ontario category in the RGD Student Award Competition.

Jamie Boyle, Jeff Roberts and Samantha Ryan, first-year students in the Chef Training program, take first place at the Second Annual "Make it with Mushrooms" Student Chef Challenge in Guelph, Ontario.


2009

January
Jennifer Howarth, President of the Cambrian Students’ Administrative Council (SAC), receives the Colleges Ontario Student Leadership Award. The award honours a current or recent student who has demonstrated exceptional and innovative leadership in support of the college system.
 
Cambrian President Sylvia Barnard receives The Rotary Club of Sudbury’s highest award - the Paul Harris Fellow. The Paul Harris Fellow is given to individuals who reflect the ideals of Rotary...who are outstanding contributors to the improvement of community and quality of life.
 
March
Cambrian College’s Baking and Pastry Arts Students take first place in the Outstanding Dessert category at the annual “More than Just Desserts” event in support of the Arthritis Society.

April
Deborah Robertson, the Cultural Facilitator for Wabnode's culture program, is among 75 people who receive the Caring Canadian Award from Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada at a ceremony at Rideau Hall.

May
A team of five Cambrian College faculty members (Cynthia Booth, Janice Clarke, Sherry Gervais, Micheline Lavallee and Michelle Zerwer) is honoured with the 2009 Impact Award given out by the Educational Technology Committee for Ontario Colleges (ETC), an advisory group that promotes and encourages the effective use of technology for teaching and learning within the provincial college system.

Matt Burr, a third-year student in Cambrian College's Computer Systems Technology program, captures the gold medal at the 15th annual Canadian Skills Competition − an Olympic-style, two-day event that enables students to showcase their trade and technology skills and to compete against the best in the nation.
 
June
Kate Bruce, a professor in Cambrian College’s Mining programs, is honoured with a 2009 Premier’s Collaboration Award from the Government of the Northwest Territories.

September
Jennifer Taback, a graduate of Cambrian’s Graphic Design program, is the recipient of the 50 Carleton & Associates Award of Excellence for Northern Ontario category in the RGD Student Award Competition. The award is presented each year to the top graphic design student from the four Northern Ontario colleges (Cambrian, Canadore, Georgian, Sault).

October
Jessica Taylor, a second-year student in Cambrian’s Developmental Services Worker program, and Matt Berube, a second year student in the Physical Fitness and Leisure Management program, are two of 300 students from across Canada selected to receive a an In-Course Excellence Award from the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation.

November
Former Cambrian College Public Relations student and Students' Administrative Council president, Jennifer Howarth, wins a national entrepreneur contest during a special live edition of CBC's “Dragon's Den.” The National Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative hosted the contest that was put together by PropertyGuys.com and the Canadian Youth Business Foundation.


2010

February
The City of Greater Sudbury’s Best Start Network names Cambrian College’s Early Childhood Education – Alternate Delivery (ECAD) diploma program as one of the city’s top nine “Best Start” initiatives for 2009.

April
Cambrian College Chef Training alumnus Sergio Shidomi wins first place for Best Cake and third place overall in a national World Chocolate Masters qualifying competition held at Humber College.

May
Ruby Cooper, Lorraine Giroux, Craig Jackson, and Georgette MacDonald – four graduates from Cambrian College’s Aboriginal community – are among a select group of 100 postsecondary graduates from across the country to participate in the Inclusion Works 2010 conference, Canada’s largest employment and human resources event for Aboriginals.

June
Florian Tessier, a student in Cambrian College’s Heavy Equipment program, places second in the Heavy Equipment Service category at the national Skills Canada Competition. In addition, four students medal at the Ontario Skills Canada competition:

• Dillan Cooke – Bronze – IT and Network Support

Susan Alcorn MacKay, Director of the Northern Ontario Assessment and Resource Centre based at Cambrian College, co-authors a report titled Identifying Trends and Supports for Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder Transitioning Into Postsecondary that was commissioned by the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario (HEQCO) to help provide a roadmap to success for postsecondary students with autism spectrum disorder.
 
July
Robert Bentzen, Manager of Cambrian College’s multimedia production facility known as eDome, is the recipient of the 2009 Volunteer Recognition Award from the Ontario College Administrative Staff Association (OCASA).

The University and College Designers Association (UCDA) commissions original art work by Ron Beltrame, a professor in Cambrian College’s Graphic Design program, that is featured in its “40 Designers Project” celebrating the association’s 40th anniversary.
 
August
Kameal Mina, Professor and Program Coordinator for the Energy Systems Technology program at Cambrian College, publishes research that proves a building’s conductive heat loss can be reduced by using an alternative construction technique. Mina also presents his findings at the 2010 International Conference on Building Envelope Systems and Technologies (ICBEST) organized by National Research Council of Canada.

September
Graphic Design students Meggan Michaud and Tafari Anthony receive Awards of Excellence from the Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario (RGD Ontario). Michaud is honoured with the BMR Award for Northern Ontario and Anthony is honoured with the TTC Creative Communications Award for Northern Ontario.

November
The Sudbury YMCA honours seven Cambrian graduates with peace Medals in recognition of their contribution to building a stronger, more peaceful world. One medal is presented to a group of Paramedic and Firefighter graduates who, as students, spent a week in Haiti providing humanitarian efforts in the earthquake-ravaged country. The other medal is presented to Jessica Taylor, a graduate of the Developmental Services Worker program. Among her many accomplishments, she attended the World Youth Congress as an advocate for disability rights.

Ray Doyon, a Student Advisor in the Student Success and Recruitment department and a key player in the College’s recruitment efforts, is selected as the Sudbury Regional Business Centre’s Young Professional Association’s Male of the Year. Each year, the YPA recognizes young professionals in the City of Greater Sudbury who demonstrate leadership and excellence in the workplace and in the community.
 
Trevor Fera, a graduate of the Pre-Service Firefighter Training and Education program, wins the World Firefighter Combat Challenge, often known as the “toughest two minutes in sports.”


2011

March
Third-year guitar student Jamie Dupuis is the winner of The Full Ride Scholarship Competition from the Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music in Hollywood California.
 
Heather Blondin, a professor in the College’s Dental Hygiene program, is elected to the Executive Committee of the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario.

April
Third-year Energy Systems Technology students Ryan Halk and Ashley Remeikis are among the ten finalists in the OntarioGreenSpec.ca Home Sweet Home Student Challenge.
 
Cambrian College is honoured with the Corporate Partner Award by the Canadian Cancer Society during its annual Volunteer Appreciation Night.
 
Competing against 12 other top student chefs, Cambrian Baking and Pastry Arts student Marina Butterfly wins third place in the Cacao Barry/Callebut Canadian Intercollegiate Chocolate Competition in Toronto.
 
Cambrian president Sylvia Barnard receives the Bernadine Yackman Woman of the Year Award at the 2011 Business and Professional Women (BPW) Awards Gala.
 
Cambrian Public Relations student Murphy Champagne is one of three students from across Canada to secure a prestigious TD Meloche Monnex Fellowship. Champagne will spend a year working in Cambrian’s Advancement department.

Dillan Cooke, a student in the Computer Systems Technology program, captures gold at the Ontario Skills Canada competition and two other Cambrian students medal at the event:

Dillan Cooke, a student in the Computer Systems Technology program, earns a gold medal in IT Network Support at the National Skills Canada Competition.
 
Civil Engineering Technician graduate Luis Garcia is the 2011 recipient of the Carole and George Fletcher Foundation award, sponsored by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).

October
Special Events Facilitator Patricia Bleau is recognized by the Greater Sudbury Police Service for her work with the Organizing Committee of the 2011 Provincial Floor Hockey Championships, which was organized by Special Olympics Ontario and hosted by the Greater Sudbury Police Service.
 
Civil Engineering professor Brent Eckert receives an Outstanding Educator Award from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) in recognition of his significant contributions to the training and education of Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
