Management Team
Curtis Philippon
President & CEO
Curtis Philippon joined Certarus as the Vice President Finance & CFO in June 2014 and took over as the President & CEO in November 2016. Curtis has over 15 years of leadership experience in both operational and finance roles. Prior to his appointment at Certarus he was the operational Vice President at Enerflex responsible for the compression rental fleet for Canada & Northern USA. Curtis spent nine years in senior management roles at Enerflex and its predecessor company Toromont. Curtis was also a Controller at both Cathedral Energy Services, an international drilling and completion company and International Paper, an international forest products company.
Curtis holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta, a CPA CMA designation and an MBA from the University of Calgary.
Nathan Ough
Vice President - Business Development & Co-founder
Nathan Ough has fourteen years of industry experience of which the majority has been focused on the energy service and fuel market in both Canada and the United States. Prior to Certarus, Nathan worked on Macquarie Capital’s Global Energy Investment Banking Team covering the energy capital markets.
Nathan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Economics from the University of New Brunswick.
Clint Warkentin
Chief Financial Officer
Clint Warkentin is an accomplished executive, with over 20 years of experience in the energy industry. Immediately prior to joining Certarus, he spent nine years with ATCO in progressively more senior roles including VP Treasurer, VP Finance & Risk, and Senior Financial Officer. Earlier in his career, Clint held senior positions at TD Securities, Superior Plus, and a renewable power company.
Clint holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan, a CPA CMA designation, a CFA designation, and completed the Ivey Executive Program.
Aaron Hilber
Vice President Engineering
Aaron brings over 10 years of experience in the energy industry in engineering and operational roles. Prior to joining Certarus, Aaron was a founding employee at OsComp Holdings, a fellow CNG virtual pipeline company focused on oil field services in the US. At OsComp, Aaron held various responsibilities including engineering, project management, operations management, and executive level. Previously, Aaron worked at GE Oil & Gas in various engineering roles focused on custom turbomachinery manufacturing and repairs.
Aaron holds a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Lafayette College and a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
Dan Bertram
Vice President Corporate Development
Dan Bertram spent over five years at Alaris Royalty Corp as VP Business Development, leading their origination and deployment efforts. Earlier in his career he worked for Deans Knight Capital Management as an Investment Analyst and spent time in the investment banking industry.
Dan is a Finance Grad from Boston College and holds a CFA designation.
Denyel Sears
Vice President Finance & Corporate Controller
Denyel Sears joined the Certarus team in 2014, focusing on corporate governance and financial reporting. Denyel is a CPA, CGA with 15 year of financial experience in varying capacities. Prior to joining Certarus Denyel held the positions of Divisional Controller and Assistant Controller at Enerflex Ltd. and Corporate Controller at GLBH Corporate Services.
Denyel holds a Bachelor of Commerce, with Distinction from the University of Alberta.
Amber Mercer
Human Resources Manager
Amber Mercer is an HR professional with expertise in recruitment, payroll and employee relations. Amber started her career in technical recruitment for major capital projects in the upstream oil and gas industry. She later went on to lead the talent acquisition initiatives for PepsiCo in Western Canada. Amber has a passion for building and supporting high performing teams. Amber holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University.
Clint Eaves
US Industrial Sales Manager
Clint Eaves is an accomplished manager with over 10 years experience in the energy industry. Prior to Certarus, Clint has held positions that include executive sales at Baker Hughes, and senior drilling optimization engineer at National Oilwell Varco. Before joining National Oilwell Varco, Clint spent four years learning the Oil/Gas market serving various field engineering roles. Clint earned his BA in Mathematics from the University of Oklahoma.
James Quinn
Operations Manager – Transportation
James has held labourer and leadership positions in residential and commercial construction, mechanized agriculture, and trucking and rail operations. He has over 8 years of direct transportation and logistics experience, including working as a Class 1 truck driver. James holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Supply Chain Management from the University of Calgary and is an MBA candidate at the Haskayne School of Business. James joined the Certarus team in 2015.
Marshall Zurovec
Sales Manager - Southern US - Oil & Gas
Marshall Zurovec has more than 9 years of drilling and completions sales experience. Prior to joining Certarus, Marshall held positions at Baker Hughes as a National Account Manager and as Vice President of Energy Business Development at Duff & Phelps. Marshall earned degrees in Political Science and Geographic Information Systems at The University of Texas at Austin.
Ty Butikofer
Northern U.S. Sales Manager
Ty Butikofer has 10 years of sales experience, 8 of which are in the oil and gas service industry. Prior to Certarus, Ty held positions at Halliburton as a sales leader, sales manager, and finally in their corporate sales division. Ty then became the technical sales engineer for Coiled Tubing Partners, responsible for all of sales and engineering in the Rockies region. Ty has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Law with a Minor in Biology from Portland State University.
