OCWA Taps into Blue W

Community-based program promotes tap water - Union Water Supply System comes aboard

Sep 26, 2013
OCWA is pleased to partner with Blue W, a unique community-based program dedicated to promoting municipal tap water as a healthy, easily accessible alternative to purchasing bottled drinks. This organization provides mapped details (on website and via smart phone app) on where to find clean, free public and commercial sources to fill a reusable bottle, without compelling people to make additional purchases.  Places that have come on board – including municipal buildings, restaurants, cafes and other shops put Blue W decals in their windows, notifying the public that they are participants in the program. There are already 6,000 sites across Canada.

OCWA is supporting this program in partnership with their client communities and is pleased to announce that the Union Water Supply System has recently come aboard.  The communities of Leamington, Kingsville and Essex have endorsed the concept and Union Water Supply System General Manager, Rodney Bouchard is hoping to convince Lakeshore to join the cause. “It's a good community support program," says Bouchard.

“Blue W is a great fit for OCWA,” says Robin Kind, General Counsel and Executive Sponsor, Corporate Social Responsibility. “We already ensure communities have clean, safe drinking water coming from their taps, and this program is a great way to improve accessibility and ensure the public can take advantage of that same drinking water while they are on the go,” continues Kind.

OCWA hopes to partner with more client communities in this great public outreach program and will be looking at further possibilities throughout 2014.
