Some Important Points About Prospecting To Remember

Newfoundland and Labrador remains relatively under-explored and there is enormous potential for further discovery of economic mineral deposits in the province.  Prospecting remains a very valuable tool in mineral exploration in the province.

A healthy and  vibrant mineral industry requires access to land, lots of land.  A large land base is required for initial prospecting and mineral exploration efforts if new mines are to be found and developed.  It takes a long lead time and much prospecting effort to make the initial mineral discovery that will eventually lead to a mine being developed and brought into production.

Multiple Land Use Policies

Multiple land use policies allow access for prospecting and mineral exploration, as well as safeguarding the environment. These policies must be adopted by both levels of government.

At the present time, too much land has been removed from prospecting and mineral exploration, with 20% of the province's area already restricted.

Prospecting and mineral exploration have a minimal impact on the environment. Today's activities are conducted in a safe, environmentally friendly manner. Canada is a world leader in modern environmentally sustainable mineral exploration and mining methods.
