Nursing station providing basic medical and health care services that promote physical and mental health for community members.
 
  • Coordinates health care services through the Nursing Station; health team consists of Community Health representatives, Nurse Practitioner, home support workers and visiting doctors, dentists and specialists
  • Provides services of visiting doctors usually 5 days per week through a contract agreement with Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) and Anton Meyers Doctors (AMDOCS)
  • Provides health awareness and counselling, education and prevention workshops in areas that may include Diabetes, Immunization, Sexual Health and Communicable Diseases
 
Addresses individual health care needs by providing:
 
  • Treatment of on-going health problems
  • Emergency services
  • Dental care including children's oral health
  • Advocacy on behalf of individual with other health professionals
  • Coordination of one-on-one pre-natal care with the community health nurse
  • Home visits to the sick, elderly, new mothers and persons with health care needs
  • Assistance with coordinating local and long distance travel arrangements for medical appointments
 
Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN)
 
  • Provides access to specialized medical care using videoconferencing and other tele-diagnostic equipment
  • Allows specialists to remotely examine and prescribe treatments to patients in their home communities
  • Allows consultations for patients with specialty services such as physio, diabetes, etc.
  • Provides opportunity for workshops and education sessions for staff and patients
  • Reduces the need to travel to receive care
