Nursing Station

Nursing station providing basic medical and health care services that promote physical and mental health for community members.
- Coordinates health care services through the Nursing Station; health team consists of Community Health representatives, Nurse Practitioner, home support workers and visiting doctors, dentists and specialists
- Provides services of visiting doctors usually 5 days per week through a contract agreement with Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) and Anton Meyers Doctors (AMDOCS)
- Provides health awareness and counselling, education and prevention workshops in areas that may include Diabetes, Immunization, Sexual Health and Communicable Diseases
Addresses individual health care needs by providing:
- Treatment of on-going health problems
- Emergency services
- Dental care including children's oral health
- Advocacy on behalf of individual with other health professionals
- Coordination of one-on-one pre-natal care with the community health nurse
- Home visits to the sick, elderly, new mothers and persons with health care needs
- Assistance with coordinating local and long distance travel arrangements for medical appointments
Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN)
- Provides access to specialized medical care using videoconferencing and other tele-diagnostic equipment
- Allows specialists to remotely examine and prescribe treatments to patients in their home communities
- Allows consultations for patients with specialty services such as physio, diabetes, etc.
- Provides opportunity for workshops and education sessions for staff and patients
- Reduces the need to travel to receive care
