William Diabo

Chief

Born – Toronto - August 6, 1943.

Raised in Toronto, Kahnawake and Dunkirk New York from birth to age 18.

Returned to reside in Toronto Ontario in 1962, married and obtained employment with Loblaw’s 

I was married for 57 years to my dearly departed wife Judith a citizen/member of Magnetawan First Nation.

I am blessed with a large family which I truly love.

 

POLITICAL

 

Called upon to run for Chief in 2009 – accepted and was elected for a 2-year term.

Nominated and reran in 2011 and was not reelected (temporary setback).

Called upon again in 2013 and was elected for a 2-year term.

Nominated and reran in 2015 and was reelected for another 2-year term.

Nominated and ran for Council in 2017 and was elected.

Nominated and ran for Chief in 2019 and was elected.

 

Samantha Noganosh

Deputy Chief

 

Samantha is a granddaughter of Barbara Noganosh, she is a 28-year-old mother to one son, and has grown up in Magnetawan First Nation. She is in her 2nd term on Council and was re-elected as Deputy Chief in 2018.

 

Having graduated from the Georgian College Aboriginal Community and Social Development Diplomacy Program, Samantha is knowledgeable in many aspects of First Nation advocacy, administration, and governance.

 

Through professional trainings and practical working knowledge, Samantha is experienced and building her expertise in the areas of the First Nation Lands Management Act, the Magnetawan First Nation Land Code, and Law Making. Currently, Samantha is also the Assistant Manager in the Magnetawan First Nation Lands, Resources and Environment Department.

 

Samantha has been trained in an abundance of things; Suicide and Crisis Intervention, Proposal Writing, Family Counselling, Facilitating Workshops and Circles, Holistic Healing, Land Law Making and more. Coordinating committee meetings, sitting on Board of Directors for Magnetawan First Nation’s Political Territorial Organizations, and partaking in meetings and negotiations has influenced Samantha’s professional communication and advisory skills.

 

Before finding her niche in First Nations Lands Management and Politics, she had worked in many First Nation advocacy capacities. Notable accomplishments would be her time spent working at Barrie Native Friendship Centre as a Court Worker Assistant, and at B’saanibimaadsiwin Native Mental Health as the Post Partum Mood Disorder Program Coordinator. These positions formed her interest, knowledge and experience in Mental Health Services, and Aboriginal Peoples in the justice system.

 

Samantha’s background in growing up on reserve and her academic and professional accomplishments have shaped her into an understanding, personable, respectful advocate for First Nation issues. Living and working in the front lines of Magnetawan First Nation, Samantha is committed to creating a safe, healthy, and happy community for the present and future generations of Magnetawan First Nation.

Teresa Hunt

Director of Operations

 

In 2013, Teresa founded To Your Defence with the mission of providing access to justice for everyone.  Teresa holds a strong knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act, Provincial Offences including Dog Owner Liability Act, Alcohol and Gaming Commission, among others.  Teresa is also well experienced in litigation within the Small Claims Court where representation served private individuals and small-to-medium sized businesses.

 

Additionally, Teresa assists in the education of paralegals and the community by hosting many Continuing Professional Development courses and free legal clinics in and around her community.

 

In addition to being the Director at Magnetawan First Nation, Teresa believes in “giving back to your community”, and sits as a Board of Director for the local services board of Byng Inlet and Britt and the Parry Sound District Social Services Board.

 

Outside of work, Teresa is an Appointed Designated Minister with Clergy Support Memorial Church.  Teresa can be trusted to conduct your wedding ceremony in a manner that is both professional and friendly – giving you a special day to remember!
