Outotec Built a Pre-School in Tswelelopele, South Africa

Outotec sponsored the building of decent learning environment for the children of Magojaneng West, in Hotazel Kuruman. In addition to building the Tswelelopele pre-school in conjunction with the Kalagadi Sinter Plant Project - scheduled for commissioning in 2012 - together with our contractors, our project team participated in building the playgrounds and providing learning tools to stimulate learning.   

 

Besides monetary contribution of EUR 20,000, Outotec employees did actual construction work. The main building of the new pre-school provides room for 100 kids with 200m² of classrooms and 100 m² for kitchen, office, storage and isolation room.

 

Besides the building and facilities a lot of effort has been put into the educational side – a real pre-school environment has been created.

 

"I have never experienced a more emotional and life changing experience in Outotec. It was the first time in my life that I was at a loss of word to see the changes and the impact that you as a team has had in life of all those children and the community. To stand there and to have been in the privileged position to see the delight on the faces of the children and the teachers, was really moving", said Scharl Laubscher, Vice President of ELE business area.  

 

The new school building was needed, indeed. By the time of the first visit to the village, 96 children in the age between 2 and 6 years had to share 2 little shacks, without running water, no toilet facilities and no shade. The kindergarten receives very little financial support due to the limited facilities.This pre-school project is an excellent example of Outotec's community involvement and philanthropy. It also shows innovative approach, commitment and big heart of the Kalagadi project team members.
