Whether ground calcium carbonate (GCC) or synthetically precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), Omya pigments always originate from the earth. This is why Omya has secured the purest and brightest ore bodies and exploits them with the highest sustainability standards while respecting the environment – both now and for the future. If the raw material is not a perfect fit for the customer's needs, it is further beneficiated using the most advanced techniques.

The raw material is then treated in state-of-the-art facilities where it undergoes several stages of processing, all fully automated, in order to ensure the most consistent quality for the end user. These automated processes have been developed and continuously improved in-house for decades and this outstanding experience guarantees that particle size distribution and brightness are perfectly adapted to the application.

Omya strives to have all its plants certified according to international quality, health & safety and environmental standards (ISO, OHSAS), as well as having our distributed products included within the certification.

We aim for safe and incident-free operations throughout the world. Omya considers regulatory compliance as a minimum requirement in its overall sustainability strategy.

Secured Raw Material Supply

Omya always favors a strategy of acquisition using its own resources rather than having suppliers of raw material.
Omya always has a long-term vision in terms of deposits – a plant cannot be constructed without usable reserves being ensured for at least 30 to 40 years (or more, if possible).
Omya's deposits are well known geologically (mappings, drillings). This allows us to obtain a long-term 3D vision of the deposits and to establish precise mining development, thus saving on mining costs as follows:

In open pits:
  • The waste dumps are located outside the deposit area
  • The plant is built outside the quarry area

In underground mines:
  • Excavation of galleries is made according to a precise plan avoiding unusable areas
  • The vein is not followed, as was often the case in old mines

As a result of this well-prepared reconnaissance of deposits, it is easier to take into account possible risks (stability, falling rocks) and to ensure better site restoration after (or sometimes during) mining.

State-of-the-Art-Facilities

Omya's process competence centers develop, define, maintain and communicate the state-of-the-art production processes with the associated engineering standards, guidelines, specifications and support to the company's engineering hubs, R&D and operations.

Omya's engineering hubs design and build new, state-of-the-art processing production plants, plant extensions and enhancements as quickly as possible in accordance with the operational needs, intended design lifetime, Omya's policies, standards, guidelines and specifications – and all while meeting or exceeding all applicable safety standards.

Omya's machine design team develop, design and maintain the company's proprietary machines and provide the associated technical support to the engineering hubs and operations.

Omya's pilot plant team provide know-how, resources and test equipment for both product and process development and optimization, up-scaling from laboratory to industrial scale for new products and consumables, processes and machinery.

Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE)

Health & safety and exemplary regulatory performance

Omya considers the health and safety of its employees and others working within its facilities a high priority. We regard accidents, injuries, occupational health and safety issues or environmental harm as being unacceptable, and continually strive to prevent them from happening.

We aim for safe and incident-free operations throughout the world. Omya considers regulatory compliance as a minimum requirement in its overall sustainability strategy.

Certification

Omya strives to have all its plants certified according to international quality, health & safety and environmental standards (ISO, OHSAS), as well as having our distributed products included within the certification.

Integrated management systems

Quality, Safety, Health and Environment (QSHE) factors are integral to all business decisions, in all areas of activity and at all levels of managerial responsibility. Achieving our QSHE goals is the responsibility of the entire Omya workforce.
