Prospecting and Mining Exploration Techniques Program

The purpose of this program is to prepare the student to work in the field of prospecting and mineral exploration. It deals with various functions related to these mining activities in construction sites such as underground or surface mines. Depending on the field, whether exploration or mining geology, tasks vary from the preparation of exploration projects, geological surveys, drilling supervision, to supervising the mining of ore. Mining prospecting and exploration technicians carry out their work under the supervision of geologists, geological engineers, site managers, geophysicists, geochemists and hydrogeologists. Vocational training outcomes
 
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:
 
1. Apply knowledge of recent technologies such as GIS and move efficiently using various instruments and methods (compass, GPS, maps and GPS software);
 
2. Write reports and work, documenting sample descriptions precisely, in accordance with government regulations, laws and industry standards;
 
3. Perform all tasks in compliance with the laws and health and safety standards of the industry which ensure optimal safety both for oneself and for team members, the workplace and the environment;
 
4. Effectively produce work using software such as: databases, spreadsheets, word processing and 2D / 3D software to support the implementation of exploration and exploitation projects;
 
5. Apply established quality control and assurance methods and procedures to meet industry standards and requirements;
 
6. Analyze and solve mathematical problems in trigonometry, geometry, geophysics and geochemistry, applying basic calculations and essential concepts in order to analyze and process the data;
 
7. Design and carry out a drilling program, and collect rock and soil samples;
 
8. Implement and differentiate the different rock and soil sampling methods to contribute to the deposit evaluation process;
 
9. Calculate the designation of the rock quality and the sample yield in order to carry out a complete evaluation;
 
10. Measure and verify the installation of the drilling work in order to execute a sampling program according to the requirements of the exploration plan.
