Quotation

Feb 2, 2015
When issuing a request for Quotation, whether it be to one or several foundries, be as specific as possible. Clearly state the alloy or alloys to be cast, any machining or secondary operations needed, and any NDT (non-destructive testing) or material certification requirements. If volume or cast weight is available, please include this information

When requesting various quantity breaks, please be realistic. State the number of castings normally required per order and the annual requirements. The type of tooling quoted is very dependent on the quantities requested. Automatic or multi-cavity tooling may reduce individual piece price, but initial tooling costs will be much higher than for a single cavity, manual tool. Request that the investment caster describe the type of tooling quoted.

Ask the casting engineers to review all drawings and clearly state and exceptions or suggestions that they might have.Be sure the foundry knows your lead time requirements as these can have an important effect on the foundry's quote. Lead times stated on the quotation are usually based on a "best case" scenario; assuming that the samples are inspected and approved promptly.

The investment caster should clearly state on the quotation all payments terms and conditions. Any special arrangements that you might require should be discussed at this time.

The investment caster's sales department may be responsible for developing the quotation, but very often they will sell input from quality control, production, and engineering departments. Their goal is to provide you with the most accurate quotation possible, and in a timely manner.
