Wet Concrete Hopper

Jan 9, 2014

Case Study Outline:

Application: 192 cubic feet wet concrete batching hopper divided into 2 compartments. Complete hopper was lined.

Liner: TIVAR 88-2

Bulk Material: Wet concrete, coloured.

Problem: Concrete would adhere to steel hopper walls and cause disruption in flow. Labour intensive to clean out hardened concrete regularly.

Background:

A major paving stone company was concerned about rejected product and high cost to manufacture specialty concrete pavers.

Problem:

The wet concrete mixture would adhere to the steel hopper walls. This resulted in a plugged discharge and incorrectly poured pavers. Hardened concrete was almost impossible to clean out of hopper.

Solution:

TIVAR 88-2 liners were engineered and fabricated to fit into existing steel hopper. Due to narrow hopper discharge all corners were field welded to seal liner.

Result:

Large steel making facility was concerned about slow downs in production.

IMPORTANT: After the TIVAR 88-2 liners were installed, most of the sticking problems were eliminated. Quality and production counts were up significantly due to proper flow through the lined hopper. A secondary benefit of no colour contamination between batches was also realized.
