Scaffolding

Aug 19, 2015

Scaffolding is defined as a temporary structure made of bridges, walkways or platforms and supported by a wooden, steel or aluminum frame. It enables workers to reach the various surfaces involved in construction and repair projects as well as all the materials needed for their work. These structures can be fixed, suspended or moveable.

In addition to facilitating the access to a structure with ladders located at the far ends, the scaffold protects workers from the risk of falling. It also allows work to be done at heights and creates accessible new workspaces. Finally, it helps transport the materials needed to execute various tasks.

Scaffolding is subject to certain rules in terms of design (stability, maximum weight, parapet wall, flooring, access) and use (prior training of users). The choice of scaffold is based on a needs analysis (nature and term of work, spacing of work levels) and the restrictions of the worksite (general environment, building type, ground type, etc.).
