Specialty Recycling

Feb 4, 2015

In April of 2008 Miller Waste Systems Inc. and Global Electric Electronic Processing Inc. (GEEP) of Barrie began a partnership in the recycling of electronic waste. This joint venture partnership has allowed Miller to expand the services offered to the ICI customer base and provides a valuable tool in the competitive market of waste management. Through Miller Wastes facility infrastructure and partnership with GEEP Inc a network of public drop off locations is in place where Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) can be received for full End-of-Life (EOL) recycling.  Sony Canada and Samsung Canada have recently launched national "Take Back" programs for the recycling of all Sony and Samsung branded WEEE items, from Televisions to PlayStation game consoles to Stereos. This venture continues to place Miller at the forefront of recycling and waste diversion.

The Miller Waste Markham, Pickering, Bales, Brampton, Owen Sound, North Bay, Moncton, Elmsdale and Dartmouth locations along with Miller Environmental in Winnipeg have all entered under the "e-collex" banner as GEEP authorized E-waste collection sites for all forms of electronic waste. These locations are equipped with specialized storage cages for the collection of E-waste from residents and businesses in these respective communities and provide the security that these materials are diverted from landfill and properly recycled.

GEEP Inc. a Division of Barrie Metal Group of Companies is a fully government approved processor and Certified ISO 9000 and 14000 company. They are an international leader in electronic waste recycling with global locations in Canada, United States, Europe and Asia. Their facilities include state of the art process equipment with over 250 employees that recycle electronics into their basic components which are then marketed as commodities for other industrial processes. GEEP has most recently developed a technology that converts the waste plastic left over from the recycling process into diesel fuel for use in a number of applications.

Miller Waste looks forward to the continued growth of this partnership with GEEP Inc. as more recently Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) under guidance from Waste Diversion Ontario (WDO) has launched a stewardship plan to manage and divert specifically designated Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) from ending up in landfill sites. Miller Wastes Markham, Pickering and Bales Road facilities under the e-collex banner are registered as WEEE collection points under this provincial program.
