The Pikwakanagan Sports & Recreation Department is located at the Makwa Community Centre. As a department, our goal is to focus on providing all members with an opportunity to engage and participate in physical activity, organized sport, interactive community events, cultural activities, family events.
 
The Makwa Community Centre is our community hub for gatherings for many different types of events. Our centre is often rented out for various events such as wedding receptions, conferences, private events, etc.
 
PROGRAM & SERVICES
 
Community Aboriginal Recreation Activator (C.A.R.A.) Program
 
The goal of the Community Aboriginal Recreation Activator Program is to provide community-driven sport, recreation, and physical activities to enhance the quality of life for community members.  Some of the activities included:
 
  • Basketball Program
  • Rez-Ball Volleyball League
  • Floor Hockey
  • Skating Clinics
  • Boy’s Drumming
  • Girl’s Fancy Shawl/Jingle Dress Dancing
  • Golf Camp
  • Family Swim Program
  • Flikr Fridays

Our Team
 
Kerry Andrews
 
Kerry has been the Manager of the Sports & Recreation Department since it’s revival in 2016. The Managers position is to ensure overall effectiveness and efficiency in daily operations of the department and the community centre. The Manager works to seek out funding opportunities to improve and enhance programs and services for our community in the field of sport and recreation.
 
Lance Thorpe
 
Lance has been in the role of Community Aboriginal Recreation Activator since 2007. His role within our community is to provide physical activity and recreational programming for all ages. He works to engage and encourage all ages to become active in sport, culture and social events within the community and beyond.
 
Natasha Dick
 
Natasha has been our Community Events Programmer since 2017 and is very pro-active in providing our community with a wide variety of fun, all-inclusive events that support the healthy growth and development of families. Her role is to work with all ages and provide educational, social, cultural events for all members to enjoy.
 
Ryan Peters
 
Ryan is the Maintenance & Custodial Worker who ensures the daily upkeep of our community centre and grounds. He works to ensure a clean, safe environment for all members to enjoy.
