Trainer Profiles

Kevin Giles, CRSP

 

Kevin Giles started his career in the forest industry, after graduating from the NS Community College Forest Professional Program in 1996 and the Maritime Forest Ranger School in 1997. During the next 8 years he gained a vast amount of experience in contractor and employee management skills, writing and implementing health and safety policies and procedures, woodlands fire fighting, providing first aid services and providing training for employees and contractors. Today Kevin works as the National Safety Manager for Hercules SLR. Since starting in 2007 he has achieved the HSP designation with Safety Services Nova Scotia (CAPSC) and most recently the CRSP designation with the BCRSP. Working with Hercules he has developed a national safety program for the rigging and fabrication shops across the country, the program has been audited and is COR certified in two provinces. Kevin is well known for his knowledge and expertise in fall protection and industrial safety and is often called upon for consulting services from safety peers and customers.

 

Lou Gould, CHSC

 

Lou Gould began his career in the safety industry in 1994 providing solutions and specific product training to his clients. He worked very closely with the major safety manufacturers and received numerous hours of specialized product training and product application including legislative requirements. He has worked with many clients ranging from small contractors to large international companies, identifying their individual safety requirements and facilitating their implementation. Lou has worked on many large projects from oil rigs to National Defense to wind energy. In 2006 he became an Occupational Health & Safety Specialist. He has obtained his CHSC designation and is currently studying for his CHSEP Certificate in pursuit of his CRSP designation. Lou is recognized for having knowledge and expertise in OHS as well as having the effective communication tools in applying this knowledge to bring all stakeholders together to achieve their common goal. Lou looks forward to the opportunity to assist you in your goal of surpassing safety compliance and achieving “Safety Excellence”.

 

Ray Shillington, CET

 

Ray brings over 36 years of experience in the wire rope, lifting, and rigging industry to the Hercules team. After graduating from Ottawa’s Algonquin College with a Mechanical Technology degree, Ray moved into industrial equipment sales and management, including a role as Branch Manager of Wire Rope Industries’ Dartmouth location. In the last decade, Ray took training courses in Wire Rope Examination and Rigging, using the standards set by both ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and API (American Petroleum Institute). Since then, Ray has been leading Hercules training courses for ten years, in an effort to help keep our clients’ workplaces safe.

 

 

Cory Young

 

Cory Young graduated from the Nova Scotia Community College Industrial Marine Rigging program in 2008. He started his career in the rigging industry as a shop rigger. For two years he gained hands on experience in marine rigging by splicing wire rope and synthetic rope at IMP Marine (now Spartan Industrial Marine). He also attended the Nova Scotia Firefighter School where he acquired his level 1 and level 2 firefighting certificates. In 2011, Cory joined the Hercules SLR team as a rigging and fall arrest equipment inspector at our Dartmouth location. Recently he broadened his skills set in the Gulf of Mexico where he worked as a rigger for a sub sea vessel. Cory’s considerable experience and hands on skills brought him back to Nova Scotia and to Hercules as a knowledgeable member of the training team with a specialized interest in fall arrest equipment such as lifelines.
