OCWA Data Collection Project, Using Kisters "Wiski" Solution, Named One of Magazine's Top Projects of 2013

Oct 10, 2013
A data collection project conducted by the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) using “WISKI,” a solution created by KISTERS North America, has been named one of the top water projects of 2013 by Water & Wastes Digest. The project was designed to replace a legacy process data collection system at OCWA.

OCWA had required a proof of concept, in the form of a pilot project, to integrate streaming SCADA data (20,000 tags daily), mobile devices and lab data—as well as to provide a configuration for site, station, parameter and time series relationships to manage all incoming data.

“This project will allow for real-time information and data entry, increased information accuracy and a consolidated repository for all process and compliance data,” said Cindy Spencer, Special Projects Manager, OCWA, who worked with KISTERS’ Matt Ables. Ables was recently named the company’s Vice President of Operations.

“The new WISKI 7 technology will allow many field related data sets and functions to be automated reducing the levels of staff required to manage these systems,” Spencer continued. “This project allows the employee to take an active role in managing his or her process and compliance data in order to improve plant performance and the potential for alternate business partnerships.”

The ongoing project began in August 2010, according to Stan Malinky, the Chief Operating Officer of KISTERS North America. “It was very clear from the beginning that the WISKI Water Quality Module could not only replace the legacy process data collection system (PDC), but it could also improve system efficiency,” said Malinky.

WISKI is a modeling tool that offers a 99% solution for hydropower management, Malinky said: “It’s a system you can switch on in the morning and that, by late afternoon, will generate a report showing you how to create and optimize your daily work schedule.”
