We have volunteer openings in all our teams. If you want to contribute and join our vibrant teams and shape the organisation from the inside get in touch. All of these roles can be done remotely wherever you are based, unless clearly stated.
We are an equal opportunity organisation. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all volunteers. Although we are a women-focused organisation, we do have men on the team and men are welcome to apply.
We’d love to hear from you as we need many more volunteers to deliver our strategy and goals. However, we would prefer you to think and only commit to it if you have the time to deliver on your volunteering promise.
We’d be happy to answer any questions you have. Please email us. To apply please kindly fill in the form below. Thank you very much!

Web Content Coordinator
Our ideal person is interested in news and information and ready to help us keep our website updated and fresh.
We are looking for an individual with some website management experience with WordPress and experience in formatting or editing to:
1) Add blog posts and articles to the website – seek out original content and relevant news items
2) Publish the monthly profile interview
3) Update and fix pages where needed
4) Communicate with social media and other IWiM teams
5) Assist with campaigns and other ad hoc work
Time commitment: ~3 hours per week
We’re looking for a newsletter coordinator(s) to pull together and publish regular newsletters and announcements to different audiences using Mailchimp.
Candidates should have experience in editing web-based page layouts, understand design, have experience coordinating mass mailings and editing/copywriting for email-based publications. Specific newsletter or mass email application experience is not required, though familiarity with one or two generally is expected.
Time commitment: More intensive around publication time, but easier if work spread over the month, i.e. 3 hours per week+
Membership Manager/Moderator
Are you outgoing and do you love interacting with people?
The objective as Membership Manager is to keep our growing global WIM community dynamic. You would engage with our 10,500+ members and improve how we share, communicate and learn from each other – across our different platforms. You will be working closely with all other teams at IWiM and you will put together a membership strategy and be responsible for delivering it. Previous project management experience would be relevant.
Time commitment: This will probably require time at the beginning but once the ground work has been completed we believe the time requirement should reduce to 2-3 hours per week. If several people apply, tasks could be split which would reduce the time commitment and increase creative ideas.
Communications & Marketing Manager
We are looking for a self-motivated and talented Communications Manager to produce high-quality content that engages members and stakeholders and builds brand recognition.
You will create informative content, press releases, articles, and media opportunities to share our organisation’s work and impact. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, with brilliant presentation and organizational skills.
Time Commitment: 5 hours a week and more time at the beginning to familiarise with organisation and existing body of work, and time to develop an integrated comms & marketing plan with our strategy.
Social Media Savvy Volunteers
We’re looking for social media savvy volunteers to join our team in promoting IWiM across Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Can you spare an hour or two a week to help drive the debate on things we care about; events we’d like everyone to know about and share content that our members would like to hear about? Ideally you are confident on one or all of these platforms and will have used tools like Hootsuite or Tweetdeck before. Maybe you are a data-whizz and can create infographics or enjoy making gifs, memes, slideshows and word clouds.
We’re looking for helpers across the time zones to keep on top of what’s happening to international #womeninmining.
Why don’t you get in touch and tell us how you can help? We’d love to hear from you.
The treasurer does the book keeping, monitor cash flow and payments as well as prepare documentation for our yearly accounts & quarterly board meetings. You don’t have to be an accountant or be in a financial role in your present career for this position but being good with numbers comes with the job.
Time commitment: This position isn’t work intensive. Generally 5 hours a month but the work load might increase closer to submitting accounts and quarterly board meetings.
Location: Ideally you will be in London, England. IWiM is registered in the UK and the organisation follows UK legislation and financial filings.
The goal of the IWiMSpeakUp project is to draw on IWIM’s accomplished membership to promote more diversity among international mining conference panels and speakers. The project aims to establish relationships with major mining conferences around the world, and working with organisers to enable qualified and accomplished female leaders to be more represented on conference speakers lists.
As project lead you will liaise with international and technical conference organisers in the mining and extractives sector to establish relationships, negotiate packages, and find female speakers. You will manage a team of volunteers based in different countries and liaise with other IWiM teams to share the information to our members and stakeholders.
Time commitment: 5 hours per week+
We need several data specialists, analysts and project managers to track data and information on women in mining which in turn is used in our existing and future projects.
Any qualification is welcome but you will like detail, process and methodology/structure as well as being self-motivated. You will be able to see this as a vital piece of the jigsaw rather than “it’s boring”.
Time Commitment: minimum of 2-3 hours a week to see results and have a sense of achievement
Our small but dynamic research team punches above its weight for international research and publications. We are getting approached more and more to either collaborate or lead research and we want to give academics, students and just great writers the opportunity to be involved.
You would be adding to our body of research by:
-
Initiating research projects and papers;
-
Identifying collaboration opportunities with universities, NGOs, companies, government and civil society; Highlighting new articles and providing web links.
-
Maintaining an academic library of articles on “women in mining” and “gender in extractives”.
Researchers are encouraged to develop strong networks with journal editors, academics researchers and anyone writing interesting stuff that IWiM members should know about.
We have a jobs platform on our website. You would be responsible for mentioning it to HR managers and talent acquisition specialists in the mining and extractives sector for them to advertise their roles with us. Our members want to see more job opportunities and companies are all looking for diverse candidates.
You will have a commercial background or be a natural salesperson with marketing skills. You will also be thick skinned and perseverant to explain to stakeholders the benefits of this proposition.
Originally a volunteer position that could become a commission-led engagement upon results.
Time commitment: 2 hours per week minimum
If you are interested in volunteering but don’t see how you fit into these roles or if you want to develop additional products and contents contact us.
