SDT Ultrasound Solutions

DT's selection of sensors and accessories adds even more functionality and versatility to your ultrasound solution.

A great deal of thought went into our design process. Our goal? To enhance your inspection experience with practical and ergonomic sensors and accessories that strive to keep you safe.

The SDT270 from SDT Ultrasound Solutions now meets the requirements set by ATEX for use in the most dangerous and potentially explosive atmospheres in the world. For the first time ever ultrasound inspectors working in intrinsically safe rated zones now have access to the unique and advanced features of the SDT270.

Launched in 2010, the SDT270 has held up its promise to evolve ultrasound inspection as a leading technology for Predictive Maintenance. SDT introduced the first multi platform upgradeable ultrasound device that measured both static (dBµV) and dynamic (time/spectra) ultrasound data. Onboard temperature and RPM measurements make the SDT270 the most complete ultrasound tool for Condition Based Monitoring programs.

“The SDT270 remains consistent with our mission to design progressive and smart instruments,” says the company’s general manager, Allan Rienstra. “We are proud of the worldwide acceptance of our integrated solutions as we compete for projects globally. We are now very excited by the new potential reach our products will have for petro chemical plants, offshore drilling rigs, refineries, and mining not to mention the many other areas where ultrasound can not currently be used.”

While it took more than a full year to complete the certification, the official rating for the SDT270 is one of the highest attainable.

“SDT has a global reputation for quality, accuracy, and engineering”, states Rienstra. “We saw no reason to short cut the ATEX certification process. The safety of our customers is a huge priority.”

Compressed air is one of the three highest cost utilities in use at your plant. It is also one of the least maintained in terms of system leaks. Leaks are expensive and wasteful, but most often ignored.Like compressed air leaks, vacuum leaks can cause grief for manufacturers who rely on negative pressure for their processes. Vacuum leaks represent energy waste, but they also affect product quality.

Reducing energy costs is a challenge faced by many in today's difficult economy. SDT has developed the SDT200 to help you improve the overall health of your factory without breaking the bank.

An extremely versatile instrument, the SDT200 is an affordable ultrasound detector with broad applications:

There's a lot of powerful measurement capabilities built into the SDT270. Ultranalysis Suite (UAS) software is designed to help you manage the critical PdM data SDT270 gathers from your critical assets. UAS forms a synergistic partnership between your SDT270, your PC, and your PdM team.

UAS is an entirely new software designed specifically to:
• Replace SDT's well known DataManager software
• Enhance the operation of existing SDT170MD users
• Provide a software to support the power of the SDT270SU and SDT270DU
• Serve as a multi-purpose bridge between your instrument and PC

UAS has an entirely new look and feel, unlike any Ultrasound software created previously.

A quick first look you will notice:
• A familiar "windowed" user work space
• A Tree structured database
• Powerful graphics and data analysis with multiple alarm condtions
• A database that integrates all data including (dB, wave files, Temp, RPM)
• Multiple surveys created from one database
• Single and multiple user licenses

UAS communicates directly with the SDT270 using a common USB port. Each SDT270 has a unique IP address, thus UAS serves as a portal to SDT's servers where firmware checkups for your SDT270, and software updates for UAS can be done on demand. UAS also functions to allow firmware upgrades ordered from your local SDT representative.

Water-damaged cargo remains one of the most pressing problems for the industry as a whole. Owners, P&I Clubs and insurers are faced with a several hundred million dollars of water damage claims a year, not counting missed deadlines and serious disruption to client operations.

Ultrasonic is more than just another form of testing tightness. It offers a complete, global solution with unheard-of accuracy and reliability. Accuracy that has received Classification Society Type Approval. The only thing hose and chalk tests demonstrate is whether or not there is contact between the rubber packing and compression bar. Users get no idea of the actual compression.

Once at sea, it is often too late to see the shortcomings of this method.

Only ultrasonic testing can show you when you have the required or acceptable compression.

Ultrasonic testing is custom-made for maritime applications

Nothing beats ultrasonic testing for simplicity and pin-point accuracy:
• It is totally reliable, accurate and repeatable
• There's no need for water or for complicated operations
• Ultrasonic testing slashes the time needed to test the condition of hatch covers, RoRo doors, bulkheads or windows
• It ensures that hatch covers offer true cargo worthiness and prevent water ingress
• Hand-held operation can be carried out by one man
• It reduces costly idle time in port
• Easy, fast pre-load inspection.

The Industry recognition is not just for the SDT SHERLOG line itself. Why? Because only the Sherlog equipments come with the SDT-IMCS training programme. Trainee operators are given, as required by Class and the industry, comprehensive theoretical an on-board practical training in ultrasonics, rules and regulations, hatch cover designs and deficiencies as well as ultrasonic testing procedures.

Successful candidates receive a Certificate of Qualification and are added to the growing list of Certified Surveyors. (see http://www.sdt.be/pdf/CofQweblist.pdf)

Significantly, the training programme is approved by Class and accredited by the Nautical Institute.

So not only is the Sherlog TA a superior testing instrument, it is also a comprehensive programme that has led to a new standard in the marine industry.

Flex.US is a powerful diagnostic instrument that guarantees results. Ultrasonic waves are detected by Flex.US and converted into representative audible sounds that are heard in the headset. Flex.US is not affected by high levels of ambient factory noise. Its design is a unique approach to traditional testing methods.

The design of the Flex.US is based on the popular "Flexible Sensor" from SDT. Mounted on the end of a flexible steel pipe, the ultrasound sensor can access any hard-to-reach location. Bend, twist and curve your Flex.US to suit your inspection. Safely scan electrical cabinets and behind machinery guards without putting your hands in danger. To ensure comfort, the volume control is quickly adjusted when very loud ultrasounds are encountered. This sensitivity provides a high level of precision making leak detection a pleasure, not a chore.

Flex.US maintains the turbulent sound quality of a leak as it converts the ultrasonic noise to a sound humans can hear ( hissing sound ). Some instruments produce electronic signals (beeping) in the headset. Theses false signals do not distinguish a leak sound from other phenomena and make leak detection all but impossible.

1. Compressed air leaks = wasted money

Compressed air leaks account for between 30 and 40%of the total air demand in a factory. The compressor room ranks as the 3rd highest consumer of energy in most facilities. Finding and fixing leaks is the best opportunity we have for both energy and operating cost reduction.

2. A leak = danger

Detecting nuematic leaks in vehicle brake systems is a high priority measure that ensures safer vehicles on our roadways.

3. Tightness integrity = quality and comfort problems.

To verify the tightness of any volume ( vehicles, aircraft, clean rooms, building envelope, nuclear containment wall, etc... ) you need the reliability and precision of the ultrasonic testing method. Ultrasonic leak testing is the most widely-used method for identifying wind noise and water leaks in vehicles, and integrity issues in other closed volumes.

Appearances are not deceiving... The Flex.US is a solid tool, built to last. Expect the same level of quality synonymous with the SDT name. Easy to use, it works with 2 AA sized alkaline batteries.
