SMC

Air cylinders and pneumatic actuators can support automation by enhancing productivity, increasing throughput, and improving worker safety when they are appropriately specified. The products range from linear (round body, compact, tie rod), guided, rodless, rotary, gripper, locking, clamp, and stopper with variations of non-rotating, corrosion resistant, heat-resistant, repairable and other common options.

SMC cylinders and actuators are available with inch and metric dimensions as well as NFPA and ISO Standards to meet a wide spectrum of industries and application requirements.

Vacuum generators and suction cups are integral to industrial automation pick and place systems as an alternate gripping solution. Supporting products include: vacuum filters, regulators, and vacuum sensor switches.

SMC suction cups are modular allowing for custom configuration of a multitude of sizes, shapes, materials, and mounting adapters. The various materials from non-marking types to FDA compliant, cup shape, and adapter options from ball-joint to stroke buffers ensure a perfect fit is made for each application.

The array of vacuum generators, also referred to as ejectors, have variations that include single ejector unit, manifold, inline, and generator/cup in one.

Directional control valves and manifolds direct air to pneumatic actuators, vacuum equipment and as pilot air for large-scale industrial process valves making them fundamental to industrial automation applications.

Compressed air for industrial automation equipment is treated with air prep components to extend machine longevity and enhance their efficiency. SMC’s point of use air filters, pressure regulators and lubricators are designed for modularity for easy and versatile installation. For more precise air pressure control, SMC offers electro-pneumatic regulators or transducers as well as digital pressure switches to enhance machine safety. The specialty air pressure booster regulator units increase point of use supply air pressure two or four times above main line pressure and require no electricity.

SMC’s One Touch, push to connect fittings require no tools for tube insertion, just the force of hand insertion is enough to secure its position using the holding force of the KQ’s fitting chuck and spring guide. Air or fluid leaks are prevented with an innovative anchor grip seal. The fittings are available in inch and metric sizes, in numerous configurations and manufactured in various materials to withstand a wide range of environments from standard factory spaces to aggressive high heat welding and corrosive wash down spaces. Specialty fittings such as: speed controls (flow controls) and couplers are also available in inch and metric sizes, in various configurations and materials. Pneumatic tubing and for other fluids are available in inch and metric OD sizes, in various colors and materials to withstand aggressive environments.

Industrial sensors and switches, sometimes referred to as transducers, installed in the factory automation space can provide essential machine feedback. They can monitor On/Off status, confirm operation within an optimal range, or measure real time operation e.g. pressure or flow. Industrial sensors and switches can connect to a PLC or other central controller via fieldbus or IO link to enhance troubleshooting by decreasing diagnostic time. Sensors can also become the data source for providing better predictive analytics integral to Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) or Industry 4.0, all while potentially increasing worker safety. SMC’s pressure sensors (ISE/ZSE) will provide a setpoint-trip signal if a minimum or maximum pressure threshold is broken. The ITV Series electro-pneumatic (E/P) regulator will control air/vacuum pressure steplessly in proportion to an electric signal. PF Series flow sensors will monitor flow rate of air, cooling or cleaning water.

Manifolds allow multiple tubes to be connected or disconnected in a one touch operation without tube connection errors. The time required for connection and disconnection is substantially reduced.

SMC manufactures Fluoro-resin tubing for use in environments involving high temperatures and/or corrosive fluids. Pneumatic tubing is also available in a number of other materials both with and without  reinforcement for use in standard applications. SMC fittings incorporate a positive tube seal while the fitting is under pressure which allows polyurethane tubing to be used.

Tubing is available in sizes of 1/8", 5/32", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", and 1/2". Metric tubing sizes of 3.2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 16mm are available.

SMC speed controllers have a broad range of applications and specialty focus such as air cylinder speed control use at low speed, and with residual pressure. Further options within the series include a built  in one-touch fitting, an integrated pilot check valve, a meter-in and meter-out dual flow control, a stainless steel option. With the ASR series, the environmentally conscious consumer can reduce air consumption  by 25% through the inclusion of a quick supply exhaust valve. Air cylinder speed control is easy with our comprehensive line of products.

HRS, HRS-R, HRSE compact recirculating chillers are designed to meet the widest range of single-point applications in both industrial and technology settings. The package design is robust enough for the factory, yet ergonomic and compact for lab installations. Coolant can be either heated or cooled within the set temperature range. Choose from eight cooling capacities, air or water cooled refrigerant, and global power supply options.

Basic linear air cylinders are used to provide straight-line, in/out linear movement for a variety of applications. Available as single acting (spring extend or spring return actuators) and double acting styles with single rod or double rod configurations, non-rotating, and precision non-rotating models.

Actuator body styles include crimped, round, or tie rod. Single acting air cylinders develop thrust in one direction and have spring return mechanism, which lowers air consumption compared with the equivalent size of double acting air cylinders. Using a double acting air cylinder, air pressure may be alternately applied to provide force in both directions.

Guided cylinders utilize guide rods mounted parallel to the piston rod to provide stable, non-rotating, high side load performance. SMC offers dual rod, heavy duty and precision actuator models. Like rodless cylinders, SMC guide rod cylinders reduce rod bending, piston bending and uneven seal wear. Low profile guided actuator series are available for restrictive space limitations.

Rotary Actuators come in two types, Rack and Pinion and Vane style. When the application calls for rotational motion less than one revolution, rotary cylinders can mount right at the equipment joint without taking up space with long stroke lengths, which would be required to do the same job with a linear cylinder. SMC's pneumatic rotary actuator units can achieve arc lengths of 90°, 180°, 190°, or even 270°, depending on the configuration.
