Mar 13, 2021
1911 began AIME's growth with the formation of its first three Local Sections in New York, Boston, and Spokane. Soon after in 1912 sparked the idea of technical committees to encompass the growing engineering and technological interests of its members. As membership began to exceed 4,000, with 30% of its members outside the United States, AIME's organizational structure needed to begin to change to incorporate increased productivity and attention to specific areas of interest. This marked the establishment of a committee on Increase in Membership, the first technical committee on Iron and Steel, and the first committee on Publications.
