2020 Peak Season Surcharges

Sep 9, 2020
Providing exceptional customer service is very important to us. Purolator has experienced an unprecedented demand for our transportation services causing a surge in residential deliveries and special handling services. We anticipate this high demand to continue through the upcoming holiday season and beyond.

To meet this demand, we are making strategic investments across our network to add capacity, innovation and service flexibility to ensure we meet our customers’ service expectations. To support these investments, Purolator is implementing the following 2020 Peak Season Surcharges, which will apply in addition to any existing shipping rates and surcharges for applicable services, as set out and described below.

Additional 2020 Peak Season Surcharges – Special Handling

* Each Applicable Service is as described in the Purolator Terms and Conditions of Service, available at www.purolator.com.

** Each Peak Season Surcharge will be applied in addition to the customer’s existing surcharge for the Applicable Service (e.g., Peak Additional Handling surcharge will be applied in addition to the customer’s Additional Handling surcharge). Contracted discounts for Applicable Services will not apply to the Peak Season Surcharge for the corresponding service.

Additional Peak Season Residential Area Surcharge

Qualifying customers who meet a cumulative average weekly volume threshold of 5,000 shipments serviced to a Residential Area, at any point during a Purolator weekly invoicing period between Nov. 16, 2020 and Jan. 17, 2021, will be subject to an additional Peak Residential Area surcharge based on the customer’s percentage Peak Growth Level.1 The Peak Growth Level measures the customer’s average weekly serviced shipment volume to a Residential Area within the Nov. 16, 2020 through Jan. 17, 2021 peak period against its comparable February 2020 volume.2 The amount of the Peak Residential Area Surcharge to apply during the effective period is set out in the table below. Calculations and applicability as are determined by Purolator in its sole discretion.

1 Once the thresholds have been achieved, at any single time during the Nov. 16, 2020 to Jan. 17, 2021 peak period, the Peak Residential Area Surcharge will apply for the remainder of this peak period for the Applicable Service(s), based on the Peak Growth Level, including if Customer’s average weekly volume drops below the 5,000 shipment threshold. Customer volume is inclusive of any affiliated and/or related accounts, as determined by Purolator in its sole discretion.
2 The Peak Residential Area Surcharge applies to all applicable shipments exceeding 110% of the customer’s average weekly volume for the Applicable Service(s) for Feb. 2 through Feb. 29, 2020, as determined by Purolator in its sole discretion. For weeks that are not full Purolator operating weeks (i.e., Christmas and New Year’s), shipment volumes and surcharge calculations will be applied on a prorated basis, as determined by Purolator in its sole discretion.
3 Each Applicable Service is as described in the Purolator Terms and Conditions of Service, available at www.purolator.com.
4 Peak Residential Area Surcharge will be applied in addition to the customer’s existing Residential Area surcharge (for a shipment to a Residential Area) and/or Signature Required surcharge (for a signature required shipment to a Residential Area). Contracted discounts will not apply to the Peak Residential Area surcharge for the corresponding service. The weekly average will be assessed by Purolator on a week-by-week basis during the effective period.

Any applicable Peak Season Surcharge will be consolidated into, and invoiced as, a sum flat charge for the applicable Purolator invoicing period. Each consolidated charge will be invoiced separately from the original charge for the applicable shipment or piece applied across subsequent invoices.

These 2020 Peak Season Surcharges are in addition to a customers’ existing Service Rates and Additional Charges. We are confident they will help us continue to invest in new capabilities to meet our customers’ expectations during a time of unprecedented demand.
